The family - very small - do not give gifts. We buy ourselves whatever we want. Stopped several years ago.

I have different groups of friends who get gifts.
a big group will get sewing machine pincushions.
Dotty (dotcomdtcm) gave me this idea. just a small
rectangle of fabric stuffed with ribbons on the ends
to tie to the machine. another group with get the pyramid zipperbag. don't know
where to get a pic, but you can google it. a few others will get a
purse mirror. the embroidered designis from Urban THreads.
You need and emb machine to do these, and lots of patience.
you sew out each side in the hoop, wash away stabilizer, then stitch together.
last year I made gnomes out of a wooden ball some white fake fur and red
felt hats. everyone thought they were cute.

oh, meant to mention, I started for next year, crazy quilt ornaments. I started them in March so hopefully, they will be done by next year. I'm anxiously awaiting some new ideas.

here is one a bit different, a bottle carrier. The original pattern makes a relatively small carrier, it will hold a wine bottle but to me the fit was tight. I enlarged the pattern to 130% and made it so it would hold a 2 liter soda bottle. The pattern is easy to make and uses fat quarters. This carrier made getting those 2 liter bottles a lot easier to manage from the store or to take somewhere.
I did not make the "fancy" one with the panel, I just used two fat quarters one for interior and one for exterior.

A couple years ago I bought a pattern for stuffed reindeer from Craftsy. They were relatively small and very cute. Were very popular as gifts.

I made a cute luggage tag from an online tutorial (after the airport destroyed mine) Have made several now for friends and make a nice, quick gift. Will make them for my little nieces to put on their backpacks for back to school.

I just found this on Craftsy yesterday. Love them. Hope you do too! Yolanda

I make grocery bags (bit larger than tote bags). I put a deepish pocket inside to hold keys, phone and wallet and add an elastic band on one end to hold my water bottle upright. I use PUL, sport nylon, denim, whatever is inexpensive but washable. The cheapy 'reusable' bags we get at the store wear out very quickly.

Consider decorative pillows with simple appliques of stars, snowpeople, ornaments or holiday trees. Be creative and personalize design or colors. Buy pillow forms on sale, use up scraps, avoid zippers by using an overlapping back and make a few extras for hostess gifts.

Mug rugs always go over well with my friends/family. I am planning to try some key fobs this year, too.
