this is the pattern that our quilt guild uses to make the Minnesota wounded warrior quilts. http://www.coloradohobquiltproject.com/history.htm We try to make sure every wounded soldier or family of a lost soldier gets one. it's a very rewarding project and they are very well received. we usually use darker colors than the example.

Barbara Brackman has been offering free Civil War blocks (along with the history) every Saturday on her Civil War Blog.
This will continue for a full year. This Saturday will be block #28.
Google Barbara Brackman Civil War Blog and scroll down to see all of the blocks, which are still available. These are 8 1/2" blocks and fun to make. I love the CW fabrics also.

Enjoy!

I too love these quilts, but they don't match any of my decor so I haven't attempted one.

I have *always* told beginning quilters and others to design a room around a quilt rather than the other way around....the quilt will still be wonderful 50 years from now; the room will have been redecorated 10 times!!

If you love them, make them for Pete's sake; quilts have more to do with hugs and warmth and cuddles and art than home decoration! :-D

Jo Morton's website shows her Civil War quilts and books. Kim Diel uses Civil War prints in most of her quilts if you look close. She spins them with applique for a more modern look, love it. The new magazine, Primitive Quilts and Projects (love it) has almost all Civil war fabrics. It has a website and it's second issue is due out in August. The first has several wonderful quilts. Check it out.
