Hi-
Today I was bringing a friend to a LQS we haven't been in for about a year and hanging on the wall was a civil war tribute quilt..I forgot the designers but the LQS wouldn't sell us the pattern, you had to buy a KOM and then go from there..long story short, it was VERY expensive but we both thought it would be SUPER fun to re-create a similar quilt. The one we liked was called Civil War Tribute by Dolores Smith and Sarah Maxwell. It was STUNNING! Any ideas on where we could find patterns/similar blocks for much less?? Thanks! |
you might try this page
http://www.patternsfromhistory.com/ and I found another page that has tons of civil war reproduction fabrics this one also http://hubpages.com/hub/Free-Quilt-P...rugal-Quilters I found one on my other computer that told the history of the slave trade blocks, very cool website |
This is the pattern I'm using. I got it from Keepsake Quilting awhile ago, but they don't seem to have it anymore. Here's a link to someplace that does carry it (I've heard of them, much less bought anything from them, but at least it gives you some ideas...).
I'm really enjoying the pattern, although I changed the colors up quite a bit. http://www.beavercreekquiltcompany.c...es=0&lastmenu= |
I think a big part of it is the CW reproduction fabrics. It must have been an LQS theme, because mine here had a big one hanging that had been a BOM last year.

HockeyRabbit:
This is a copyrighted design, but if you look carefully at the blocks, they are all traditional blocks and can be duplicated easily. The beauty of the pattern stems from the fabric choices. quote=Hockeyrabbit]Hi- Today I was bringing a friend to a LQS we haven't been in for about a year and hanging on the wall was a civil war tribute quilt..I forgot the designers but the LQS wouldn't sell us the pattern, you had to buy a KOM and then go from there..long story short, it was VERY expensive but we both thought it would be SUPER fun to re-create a similar quilt. It is the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, which is likely the reason you are seeing more this year.

Here is a link to the quilt we loved..any thoughts on how to break down the blocks?

these ladies do have books with patterns you could kinda save the pattern of the quilt as it is for bom and then with the book learn the patterns of the blocks and lay your own out.

This is suppose to only be sold as a block of the month kit. I have bought it and love it and the fabrics also.
