I'd go with the 'iron off' type product. Readily available in grocery and discount stores. Have had wonderful success with these products.

THANK YOU for all this wonderful advice. I have a yukky iron I would like to use for fusible projects but it needs to be cleaned. My other iron I use only for fabric.

Salt and lots of salt on a flattened brown paper bag, heat up the iron and go for it.
