Thanks. I used to kid my daughter when she went off to college that I would make her room my sewing room, but I just have so much more space downstairs. I swore when I got it organized this time that I wouldn't let it get like before when I didn't know where things were. So far so good and hope it stays this way.

Good luck! :)

HOW did I miss this thread all week??

:-o

I am starting a 27-thing fling, in other areas of the house first, the big finale will be the studio... You can go to my blog and read my details...and my results...such as they are...

I hope to reach the studio by the beginning of February, I am sure your tips will all come in handy by then....

My fabric folding is coming along.. I decided to seperate the larger yardage amounts..so i would have a section for possible backings or larger amounts of fabric needed for patterns.

Although, i have no business starting any new pattern! i have two containers full of WIP's!

Then i looked into the closet, and realized there was wasted space, above the cabinet i put in there..so i took a hammer, and knocked out the metal strip used to hang clothes on..then pushed the shelf all the way back, and am using it to store batting up there..

how is everyone else coming along?

Today i bought some clear protectors to put my patterns in,some page dividers, and a 3 rings binder..to put it all in! That will be a quiet time job for later.. Kim

I've been cleaning up the sewing area and after working on it all afternoon, DH came in and said: Wow, I can see parts of the table top. It took another couple of hours before it was all cleaned off.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to clean up the top of the counter. Nowhere to put stuff. Looks like I need to think of a complete reorg. Not today though.

brushandthimble 01-11-2010 04:57 PM

Well... is was half way to looking good, not anymore:(
I will keep trying!

sunkistmi 01-11-2010 05:42 PM

Drat. Cat just walked on the keyboard so I lost everything I had written. Here it goes again.

I can see the floor! DH was speechless. I was hoping to have the cleaned up room as a surprise but needed him to move a couple of boxes that were too heavy. I am appalled at the amount of fabric I have found. I had no idea since it was in so many different places. Bad me.

Had planned to take some before/after pictures but camera just got sent in for service. Was making some really bad noises. Maybe it will just have to be after. Well I need to head back in. If I sit too long, I lose motivation. This thread is great!

been slip-slidin the past few days. Have put up bulletin boards which I love, and folded fabric. However, folded fabric is still sitting on the end of my table. Will put that all in drawers today. I'm working on a quilt for a friend of my daughters and wanted to sew. Kind of put the organizing on the back burner. But, if I do a little each day, eventually, it will be done!!! Yay. Will send pics soon.

watterstide 01-18-2010 04:53 AM

Glad to see everyone is still at it, in some form or another! Me too! i found book ends at walmarts..so now the folded fabric is up right. I have one section to complete.the fleece. (although i will still be folding fabric, but i can shut the door to that!

judyq 01-18-2010 05:02 AM

folded fabric now in drawers! Table getting cleaner!! LOL

Mousie 01-18-2010 05:38 PM

I don't have any earth shattering news to report.
This past week: I rearranged some stuff on beige shelves, finished putting up a shelf above those...well I started and hubby finished.
Then I moved all the crafting stuff that I don't use very often up there.
I transferred office type supplies to the big desk/dresser, from the light blue 3 drawer organizer.
Transferred most of my scraps to the lt. blue organizer and got them organized in it.
got some things put in notebooks.
ok, not earth shattering, but more than I thought!

brushandthimble 01-18-2010 06:54 PM

good job quiltcrazy, I had organized some of mine and then went looking for fabrics and its a mess again...:(

watterstide 01-18-2010 07:02 PM

i applaude you! it sounds like you did a lot!!!

Riversong 01-18-2010 07:14 PM

I'm with you,Dix. My sewing room is always organized and neat and I don't say that to brag. I just have severe Fibromyalgia, and in a lot of pain. Can't deal with a mess,it takes over. So I keep it done as I go so it won't get out of hand.I clean as I go,and everything has a place.

watterstide 01-18-2010 07:22 PM

I have FMS also...This winter and the below freezing temps are really getting to me.
great you are able to keep up,sometimes i can't get out of bed..i am sure you know the feeling..Kim

Ah hah. And here's another stamper with a load of supplies. Used to be addicted to making cards, but haven't made many lately. I couldn't figure out how to organize all my stamps so I knew what I had. Finally saw where someone used a mail sorter. I got my DH to build me two large cases with removable shelves. Then I took pictures of all my stamps and organized them in a notebook. Each shelf is numbered and my notebook shows what is on each shelf. That works out great. 've been organizing my whole craft area for about two months and am about ready to post some pics.

I also scrapbook and have alot of paper and supplies but I'm into the quilting right now. You are way to organized for me. I'd like to be that way but it's just not gonna happen. However I do envy you and congratulations on the great job you're doing on your room.
~Deb~

Mousie 01-20-2010 09:29 AM

Good for you, Riversong. I am a perpetual cleaner, but have just amassed sooo much stuff.
I will keep it all, get it all organized and trying very hard not to add to it. :-D

I'm still working on organizing. I think I've made some really good changes so far. Added shelving, moved cutting table around, added 3 drawer plastic files with fabric all folded and put in drawers. It's a work in progress but by spring, I should have it the way I want it.

Mousie 01-26-2010 12:38 PM

I made some more progress over the weekend. I had piles of magazines and patterns that needed sorting and putting into notebooks.
I'm not done, but it's sure coming along :)

Rainbow 02-03-2010 06:53 PM

My dear heart made me some shelves to go in the extra bedroom closet - DEEP CLOSET - to hold my storage flats... MARVELOUS !!! Don't you just LOVE a helping hubby??

shaverg 02-03-2010 06:58 PM

Finished my room today. finally folded and put away all the fabric I have been buying for the last 4 months. I don't know if I can work it is so clean. I guess I should send pictures. I will try tomorrow.

watterstide 02-04-2010 03:11 AM

i stopped folding fabrics and started sewing..because the room was clean! still needs work.

anyone else have an update?!

judyq 02-04-2010 03:18 AM

I did the same, watterstide! The majority of the room is cleaned and things put away. I want to sew again too. Fabric is folded and put in drawers. Still a few odds and ends but I'll get to them. At least now I can move around in my sewing room! Sure appreciated that little push tho to get started! Happy sewing!!!

Nice job!!

watterstide 02-04-2010 10:07 AM

It is looking sooo good! Great job! where did you get the wall mount unit for the TV? i want one, or put way up on a shelf! it is sitting on a dresser right now in the sewing room. the top of that dresser is usable space!

shaverg 02-04-2010 10:22 AM

Watterstide, I got it at Ikea, it is not really made for a flat screen, but already had it when I bought the flat screen. You actually can find them on line or even Costco has the ones for flat screen. Target and Walmart probably have them. It is nice to have the TV off the usable space.

Oh, I just changed my Avitar, if you didn't recognize me.

brushandthimble 02-04-2010 10:48 AM

very nice room! great job.

I have cleaned mine a couple of times this year already, then I go pull out stuff for another project and it gets messy again. It is clean at the moment so I guess I should get pictures?

shaverg 02-04-2010 10:55 AM

Watterstide, I found this on WalMart, this is similar to mine. They may have them in the store.http://www.walmart.com/ip/OmniMount-...i_sku=10628578

watterstide 02-04-2010 11:55 AM

ok thanks! I don't have a flat screen in my sewing room..it is just a regualr tv. i will check them out with the DH..would be nice to get a flat screen, hummmmm :)
i think the one from walmarts would work.

shaverg 02-04-2010 12:22 PM

We got really good deals on 19" HD flat screens at Best Buy on Black Friday, one for my sewing room and one for my DH office. They were $149 each and then they gave us 2 $20 gift cards to Best Buy. Too good to pass up, our other TVs were really old. My husband added a little piece of wood to the bracket to hold the flat screen, because the TV is so light and thin, could not use the straps on the existing wall mount and being in earthquake country, wanted to make sure it wasn't going anywhere.

Wow, you gals are an inspiration, except bad timing for me. Shoulder surgery only gives me one arm, and its my right, and I am left handed..lol. I AM folding fabric with one hand, it takes time, but I am getting something done. I hope that I will be able to start doing more, but right now, it is too soon. Keep up the good work..you are all doing a beautiful job. Joanie

blahel 02-04-2010 03:05 PM

everyones sewing spaces are looking great! I like keeping things tidy because I hate to waste time and energy looking for things as I would rather spend that time quilting. If things are a mess you spend so long looking for something that you run out of time to quilt that day and that makes me mad!
