Some fabric centers are now featuring "dessert rolls" which are 1 1/2 inch width jelly roll type rolls and it sure saves a lot of cutting if you are going to use a lot of lights or darks.

I just discovered they now make 1 1/2 inch precut strips. I found mine on ebay, but they also have them at Missouri star quilt. I don't think they come in many colors yet, but I bought black and cream. I think they are Hoffman or RJR. Saves a lot of cutting time.

What about buying the Honey rolls from Moda? These are 1.5" rolls. I think Christmas Cloth store on line carries them as well as Green Fairy. However, now everybody is going to have sales.

I love log cabins, no matter what size! Makes me want to make one!

I did a 1 1/2" log cabin Christmas quilt over the summer. I think it came out nice! (If I do say so myself...lol.) I have it right now on our guest bed for the holidays.

I just used scraps, no pre-cut strips and very few fat quarters. It really wasn't that hard. I cut most of my strips over a day, or two and separated them into lengths and colors/values, then I started sewing away. It came out pretty good; not completely perfect, but I really like the funky, old fashioned look the slightly off-kilter logs create, so I'm happy. I just tied it instead of quilting it. There was so much detail already from the narrow logs; I didn't really need to add any more chaos to the mix.

If you can go with 1/4 or 1/3 yard cuts. Since FQ are usually marked up, you can normally get 1/3 yd for about the same price. Although with Christmas fabrics if they are on sale they may not want to cut 1/3 yd off of 20 bolts - if it wasn't sale time though I would go that way
