My step-grandparents were German...they came over before WWII and lived across the street from each other. I do recall seeing quilts on their beds and they were mostly appliqued. Think of a Kim Diehl type of quilt....both pieced and appliqued. The combination gives it an old world charm.

I wonder if it would be more the color choices than the pattern that would make it "German". My grandmother was a German from Russia and her quilting was the usual quilting patterns.

Thanks everyone.... I agree the colors will be important. As I googled I feel like the applique was a big part of the german feel. I just don't know if I am up to applique :)
