Sorry about my picture, it's the way EQ works.

I was only trying to show the diamond shape.
Ignore the rectangle shape.

But, again, if you're just doing diamonds, you don't really deal with the points...just the sides, and it would go together in rows (diagonal).

And even if you were doing stars, the points wouldn't really a problem and could be dealt with. If you make 60degree diamonds, you could to tumbling blocks. Could be very cool.
But first you have to decide what shape you want.

The other diamond below is based on height = 1.5xwidth.

So. a 4"x6" diamond or and 8"x12" diamond would create that image.

It's just another shape. The construction works the same way.

I don't think I have been explaining myself very well. What I want is that when the 4 rectangles are put together the strips make a diamond shape instead of a square shape. I don't want to get the rectangles too big or have them too small either. Is this what you have been thinking?

I'm doing rectangular blocks with the strips making the diamond shape.

Just making rectangular blocks with the strips making the diamond shape instead of being square.

Ah, so the basic QAYG block.

The second pic is another option but certainly not as easy as the first one.

If you're going for the first method, make the rectangle any size you want. The one I used have proportions of h=2xwidth.
But it really doesn't matter, as long as the strips are placed on an angle.

I would start the block in the middle so you know you've got the correct angle.
Then work both sides. Same points I wrote above...make it oversized so you can trim it down.
That way you don't have to worry about everything fitting perfectly while you're sewing on the strips.

I hope that makes sense and answers your questions.

QAYG is a very versatile technique and you could have a lot of fun with different shapes.
Just something to keep in mind for a future project.
