According to the Encyclopedia of Piece Quilt Patterns, on page 280, it is called Star Spangled Banner - Shelburne (Museum?)
Sorry, no actual pattern for it, just a drawing of the quilt. The picture from tv is better. It looks kind of like the person made blue triangles (star points) with the white edges (HST), then arranged them in the pattern and sewed them together for the star. |
Yes I saw the program with hubby. He was totally amazed at the appraisals of the quilts. I am so very glad we watched. I had been telling him for years how much the charity silent auction quilts should be going for, but I don't think he believed me.
I also liked the wreath rose of Sharon quilt. So nicely done. By the way, quilts and quilt blocks often have more than one name. It is because there wasn't the communication highway that there is today. I remember when they began documenting quilts so there could be a uniformity to the names of quilts and the type of quilts women had made in the usa. |
Met a friend for lunch, we were talking about the quilt. Checked some more on the net and found this:
http://barbarabrackman.blogspot.com/...red-stars.html It sort of is a pattern, and also states pattern is available in BlockBase by EQ. |
It looks to me like white flying geese blocks (with blue side triangles) stacked up and sewn around large blue triangles which make up the star. Not for the beginner, for sure.

I also love that quilt and would really like to make it but I'm not good at making my own pattern. If anybody knows where I can buy the pattern I would love to hear from them.
Otherwise, draw it on graph paper, and then when you feel like the dimensions are right, use your graph paper to paper piece it. Another block that might help you somewhat with this one is the Navajo block. http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpa...ck-Pattern.htm I'm currently making 27 of them for a quilt for DH, for Christmas. I have one completed. Uh. I better get off the computer. ;) |
