I press my blocks, rows and the whole quilt top when done. I don't like ironing, but I like how it looks after I've done it so I'll keep on ironing my quilt tops. I'm like bearisgray and I also wash my fabrics before using them.

I press every time I piece (mostly). It helps me keep my points straight. I am a beginner, so I want to start with good habits maybe not perfect points LOL

always, the more I iron/press, the better the final product, also each step goes easier, good way to catch errors!

I starch, press and square up each block before assembling my quilt top. I know it takes a little longer but my finished quilt top is flatter and much more likely to be straight and square. I also give the completed top another press to send each row in the right direction before I pin and sandwich the top. I think I get a much better product for machine quilting this way.

I would never quilt a top that hasn't been pressed!

Yes, and it is one of my least favorite tasks. I dread that final ironing and getting all the seams in the right place.

I have been told that I could just put everything together and then press. I tried that on 2 rows and did not like the looks of it.
I finger press the seams as I go, and then press. After I am all done, I go over the quilt and see if there is anything that needs touch up or stray threads. I am doing a beginners bagello quilt now and alot of seams and, wanting them to lay as flat as possible |
I do, but not after I have marked them. So I have to make sure to keep from putting any hard creases in a marked top. My mom's Double Wedding Ring is an example. It has been marked for months! I have had it hanging over the guest bathroom shower curtain rod which was a pain! I had to move it every time one of the kids needed a bath. But I am almost done quilting it, so that pain is over!

I do, it helps seams to lie flat, the top to lay more square too.
I understand the need not to if it goes on a LA though... :D:D:D |
