I love to hand quilt, that is actually how I learned, and all I did until about 2 years ago...it can be really relaxing to sit with dh, and watch some tv, while I hand quilt...I can't tell you what the rates are, as I have never charged for it...I don't think anyone ever gets paid what it really is worth, though...lol...

We have a LA but there are so many quilts that just scream to be handquilted. And I really do enjoy it.

I hand quilt all of the things I do for myself and family. Most of the time if they are for clients they want it machine done because it is less expensive for them and they are in a hurry to get it back.

The Amish quilters usually charge by how much thread they use--a way of determining the size and intricacy of the design and the quilt. I don't know what the going rate is currently.

You really can't compare hand and LAQ in an "apples to apples" fashion as to which is more expensive. The intricacy of the work for each determines the end price.

My experience has been that they are both in the same ball park. I let the other factors help me decide which to have done ... end usage (durability required), style of quilt, which technique will look best, and overall look I want to achieve.

I usually do FMQ on my Bernina, but I have decided to learn to hand quilt, so go so far!

I hand quilt all my own quilts (except those for charity that require machine quilting). I don't know that I'd do work for others as I don't think my skills are THAT good. Everyone I've given a quilt has been blessedly complimentary but I don't know that the average person would pay for my skill level. Hence, I have no idea of fees.

Sure they do! I have an ex-SIL that hand quilts and makes a pretty decent living at it!
