Isn't that maddening?!! :hunf: I've looked locally for the large spools and can't find any. Haven't tried online yet. It just doesn't seem cost effective to me to use small spools! For one thing, I never know how many small ones I might need. Of course, I could probably figure it out by comparing the yardage to another brand of thread that does come in large spools but that's too math heavy for me! :)

Another thought.... your machine looks squeaky new. Does your dealer (or where ever you bought it) offer classes or, at the very least, advice?

Oh gee, I'm two messages behind you! Was interrupted. As for bigger vs. smaller spools, I have no idea what the thinking is behind that.

And, yes, my Rudy is a handsome boy! Spoiled? Naw. The other three aren't either. hee hee

Eyelashes on the bottom would indicate 1. The top tension needs to be increased. 2. You are moving your quilt sandwich too rapidly. 3. Or, a combination of both.

Try setting the machine to the Medium speed and move the quilt sandwich slower as you sew. Try first to sew just a straight line with your free motion settings. Check your top and bottom tension and the length of your stitches. The stitches should be equal in distance from each other and only about 1/16th or 1/8th of an inch apart. There should be no loops on either the top or bottom of the stitches. Loops on the bottom require an increase in upper tension. Loops on the top require a decrease in upper tension. Do not attempt to adjust the bobbin tension at this point.

Then try the same, using a meandering pattern. You should get the same results from both.

Let us know, what your results were and we'll go from there and work it through with you, until you can be satisfied with your FMQ.

May I jump in and suggest you make a quilt sandwich for practice. 18x24" or 24x24". practice on this until you can get the bugs worked out. Set the upper tension one number at a time sew a little and check the stitching. You are getting some real good help. Just keep trying.

Go to a larger needle size. The bigger the better then keep going down to the size needle that will not break the thread.
