I used muslin on a QAYG once. It was okay, I guess, but I like color.

That's very true, and when I machine quilt, I try to find a print that will hide the stitching. For most of my hand quilting, I use muslin.

Me too! i love muslin on the backs, wether it be bleached,
un bleached or tea dyed. the only time i use regualr fabrics, is on baby's quilts, because there is usually enough left over to piece something pretty..

I do sometimes due to cost or if that is the look I want for a quilt like 30 ies. Also I like muslin if I hand quilt.

I have had a harder time finding nice muslin. I buy Moda but it seems lesser quality and have many of the little brown seed shell pieces. I have older Moda muslin I liked for piecing too but I have not been able to get that even if I order the same bolt.

I don't use muslin if I have money or print fabric already that goes. Also my quilting is not very good and the print will be more forgiving.

Thanks for your replies. Think I will try it on the twin I'm making which will probably be a donation quilt.

Yes, because of price, on all but baby quilts.

Muslin or a sheet is what I normally use for backing.

Busy backs hide a multitude of sins... If you're quilting is perfect or near perfect it's a great choice and you get a wholecloth quilt on the back. Just know that every bobble and weave will show.

I use muslin quite a lot. It makes the older quilt blocks you make look like an old fashioned quilt. I use the natural muslim, it really makes my quilts look antique!

In my experience, the bobbles and weaves show up more on the colored or print backings.
