I used Shar Jorgensons templates for my quilt. First one I've made and now I want to make another. Instead of piecing the arcs separately, I paper pieced them. Probably took just as long as piecing them separately but a lot more accurate (atleast for me) to paper piece them. I would make enough arcs for one row. Then I'd sew them to the melon, then sew them to the center (or whatever way it said to do it. It has been more than a couple days since I made mine so I don't remember. LOL) But I did it in a production line style. I only used 3 pins when I sewed the arcs, beginning, end and center.
Here is a pic of my DWR.

Dorothy, I used to be overwhelmed by how complicated instructions could be for some quilts & of course I liked the most intricate designs :)
Went to a LQS to buy a gift, (3 yrs ago) found out that most shops have classes for quilts throughout the year. Never stitched a button before my first class. Had a great time during the class & was so proud of my Turning 20! Now I take a few classes a year & quilting has become a joy.
Maybe you could check with your LQS. It's much easier & fun to have someone show you.
Honestly, I just gave away a ruffler attachment because I didn't have a clue how to use it.
