No, sorry, it's set up for bobbins which are much narrower than a spool.
I have an attachment for my sewing machine that does this. It takes special spools. It's called E-Z Winder and it works with my Viking.
I did find this video...

I would also contact Diane at Fancy Quilt to see if she has a solution.
Sounds like you already know about this one:

the reason it doesn't work is because it comes off the bobbin backward compared to others, so I've been told. I've heard that if you turn the Viking bobbin upside down and use the side winder it will work. I haven't tried this since I can sew on my Viking and wind at the same time but I'd try before I'd pay a fortune for a winder.

I have the pink sidewinder, it does work with the Viking bobbins. You put them on upside down. I was told this only works with the pink one.

I have a Viking Huskavarna, the Quilt Designer, and I’ve been using The Sidewinder for my Viking bobbins and it works great! Been doing this for years!

My bobbin winder arrived and it works great with the cones and with spools. Some spools have a sharp edge which might catch the thread--these I simple file down smooth. I've filled all my bobbins and am ready to go. I would recommend this winder without hesitation. I can set it up, turn it on, and return to sewing without waiting for it due to the automatic shut off. I love not having to un-thread and re-thread my machine.

Update: This bobbin winder does not like my old Viking (without the thread hole) and Pfaff bobbins. Time for new bobbins anyway.

Yet another update: I was wrong. I was not pushing the bobbin onto the holder. Life is good. I can wind any and all the bobbins I have. There are even two presets so I can wind and sew at the same time. I'm loving it.
