I was in a Walmart recently and some of the fabric was dreadful and some was yummy. I think (yes I am a shop owner) that where you buy your fabric is not as important as how if feels and the design. Alot of Walmart fabrics have sloppy printing and others are gorgeous. Yes, I DID buy some fabric there, but they were knits to make jackets...

I buy fabric from Wal mart when there is someone in that department cutting fabric. Most of the time, NOT

I went to Walmart to get some fabric for a quilt that I did not want to spend alot of money on..they had some good, quilting fabric to my surprise...4.55 a yard and some cheaper fabric for 2.00 a yard, the dates on the quilting fabric was 2009. They also had Wizard of Oz fabric for 4.55 a yard and it was quilting material not thin. So if you go...just be picky...you can find some good deals.

Who cares where it came from? Its your quilt. Im limited to where I buy my fabric. I live 50 miles from the closest quilt shop, I cant afford their fabric most of the time. Im just glad our local WM reinstated their fabric section. I have a local Hancocks, that isnt too bad. But I usuall load up on fabric when I go out of town.

I agree. There are no quilt police on this board. Thank goodness, or I would have been arrested a LONG time ago.

What? You can buy fabric at places OTHER THAN Wal-Mart?

I was at Walmart this morning and avoided the fabric dept. maybe I should have gone there and checked out the fabrics.
I buy lots of fabric at Walmart. I can't afford to be to much of a fabric snob.

Great find.

I love a bargain, and when I see a thrift store my car automatically finds a parking spot. I wish my walmart kept their fabric area, now it is just an aisle with fq, rolls, and things. I have been using my stash for projects, have to be careful with $$, my dd now has a deadbeat husband who is in child support arrears and she needs help to keep her oldest in college and the 2 young boys fed and housed. She works 2 part time jobs, and is raising great positive smart boys.

I got 10 yards of fabric for 5.00 what a deal. I know it is not as good as a quilt shop fabric, but it was not too thin and it work for a backing.
