I love her books, too! Both her FQ books & her others, too. Attached is a little redwork quilt I made from her 1st FQ book. I can't help it... I love this little quilt!

I also think that Kansas troubles would be great in courthouse steps and fatquarters would work great.
I can see Kansas troubles making a great nine patch too.

Personally? I can see "Kansas Troubles" being GORGEOUS in just about any pattern! And you can NEVER go wrong with a 9-Patch. Another suggestion would be one I want to make (in Civil War repos) called "Chunky Churndash" from Quiltville. Here's a pixture of it (from the blog) & a link to the pattern. Whatever you make, please make sure you post it! Inquiring minds...

I personally buy them for (my all-time favorite) 9-Patches. OK... I really buy them because I love them, but I like to use them for 9-Patches. Lof Cabins sound like a good idea, too!

Do you per chance have pictures? Oh, I hope so! All my YBRs look different, too... that's one reason I like it so much. It is so versatile!

Fat quarters that are Kansas Troubles? I thought KT was quilt block pattern.

It's both. Here's a link to the pattern & a picture of it, too. Think of how fabulous it (or Kansas Digout!) would look done in Kansas Troubles fabric!
