So familiar! In my case, the thread sometimes would slip off the little arm that raises and lowers the needle. "OH, POOP!" when it happens!

I hope I don't jinx myself, but that's never happened while quilting. It DOES however, happen periodically when I am piecing. There seems no rhyme or reason for it. I use a little Janome to piece and I never have to mess with the little tension thingy. I have to rip it all out, rethread the machine and practice on some crumbs to make sure it's fixed before I keep going again.

I have had this happen on the bobbin side if I forget to lower the presser foot. My Pfaff has a button to give less pressure that I use when machine quilting.

A fellow quilter told me to have a glass of wine before I start FMQ. It relaxes her and relieves tension from her shoulders . I have not tried FMQ yet and am frankly afraid I'll have the same kind of results!

I've seen this very sight before. Too bad it isn't acceptable sewing. But then it really doesn't hold very tightly.
