I would go with the black one.
I like the black best-especially since it is a Centennial model.
Black one! I want to have mine painted PINK! LOL everyone says I'm crazy & the value blah blah blah...but I want a pink Featherweight! I have 2 of them & both are black.
IF YOU DON'T BUY THE BLACK ONE --- I WILL.
If this is your very first FW - I would get the black. I already have 2 black and one repainted red and I love them all.
OMG. Go for the black one. A nobrainer :!:
Definitely the black one. I have the exact one and I LOVE using it!
I would get the black. I am a sucker for the centennial editions.

My choice would be the black one!
Neither one. Have you considered buying a new sewing machine. They are more reasonable than $300/$500 they are asking for here. Check out Amazon.com for sewing machines or Wal-mart, JoAnn's has reasonable price Singers.
Black..........but you can get one at a much better price!
That white is way too much! Besides my repairman says the black are better as the white were made later and it a dangnabit machinery to work on? Don't know why as i thought it was made just like the black one. Your brother is a sweetheart! |
Wow, tough choice and I can't help. Here are my thoughts though...
My "peeps" (read resources" have always said the white machine itself is better made than the black although the case itself is of poorer quality. The white ones almost always go for a higher price while the black ones are still occasionally found for a song. If you get the white one you may still pick up a cheap black one later on down the road. If you get the black one, not so likely you'll get a cheap white one later on. The black one is a Centennial model and hence generally goes for a little more and it is in somewhat better shape than the white one. Wish my brother would give me a tan FW. He won't even give me the time of day so that is not likely to happen though. |
I vote for the black one.
Black for sure!
I think the white one is prettier BUT it doesn't show any attachments at all. The black one is much more worth the money to me. It is from a one owner family and she sells at 100% satisfaction. I'd go with the black one. Good luck.
I like the white but is it worth the extra money? I don't know. I would love to have either.
The black one.
I have the black one and I adore her, so my vote is for black!
I like them both, but I have the black one and it sews like a charm. Don't know much about the white machine except that it's so cotton pickin cute.
I'd get the black featherweight.
You must be a very special sister for your brother to purchase a machine for you. To me either one would be great, however the black one appears to have more attachments that the white one. The other thing to consider is, will this be your MAIN machine or a class one. Will you sew only straight stitches or sew everything you can? How often do you plan on useing it?
Best of luck with your choice. Aunt Judy in California |

I have the black FW my mother got for her HS graduation in 1942 and the white/mint one I bought the day I got my first job in 1964. Love them both but the white one is rarer.
At first I say the white one; you don't often see them but then when you take in the fact that the black one is a centinial; I'd go with it in a heart beat. Great brother you have.
Be sure to ask if the bobbin case is included! I have a black and a white from Goodwill online for less than $200 each - love them both!
To my brain, Featherweights are black. I didn't even know they came in white until right now!
the black one
The green one is adorable but I think the best buy is the black one with all the goodies to go with it. Less monies also. I got aneat Kenmore for $5.00 at goodwill and sews so good!!!
PRicey- tell your brother you love him so much you want to honor that by not blowing it all on those prices=- stay up and watch some auctions and check those ending at odd times and days- you will get a better deal
Black.
Black one will work fine for you I love mine
I'd go with the black one but i like both!

Black one!
go with the black. there are structural differences in the machines. white is hard-wired(plug stays on the machine)
white ones (built in Great Britain) have a drive belt, the extension table is shorter, medallion is foil, not metal. |
With the blue rimmed badge stating "A Century of Sewing -- 1851-1951," the black FW is a centennial model. I would get that one for sure! I would take a FW over a new machine anytime and if you want one of these and your brother is willing to pay the price, I wouldn't go looking for something cheaper.
That white one is really quite pretty and petite looking...
Both!!
