Since her favorite colors are purple and pink I would consider a deep purple to off set them. Then maybe bind it in a thin binding of pink.
I agree with the other post of putting them on top of a variety of colors and see which one looks best. You are doing an awesome job. By hand ---- Great work! |
I think green would look great, but I think Pams idea is a really good one, like you said, you wont have to cut the fabric!

I'd go with a neutral color that would make the blocks pop. Black or white would be my choice.
