Thank you everyone for your help. I will try these until I find one that works!

I think they sell something like this but I don't know what it is called and I usually do my quilting on Sunday. No shops open withing an hour or two drive and I don't go that far for supplies if I can help it. Paper worked for me. Good luck.

This is very interesting to me. Do you know what this is supposed to accomplish? I'm trying to understand the mechanics of what happens. Does this increase the tension? Decrease it?

Ladies:
I tried your advice on a practice sandwich, about 9x12, and it worked perfectly. I was so thrilled to get started on the table runner I wanted to quilt. However, when I started quilting, it did exactly the same thing it had been--sometimes, the thread does even pull up the bobbin thread. Could this be because the fabrics are different from practice piece, there is "drag" from the runner? Any other ideas? I don't want to give up, but I'm getting close....thanks

You might try keeping your hands closer to the needle area. Maybe with the runner being bigger your hands are too far away. Go to Leah Day's website you might find some information there. I know she keeps her hands close and I find it does help me. I think you have better control of the fabric.
