Gosh, there are so many thoughts going thru my head right now to share along with all the previous ones that have already been suggested. I especially like the idea of personally calling a new quilter to see what may be of interest to them. So here goes, but I promise only a few
We have had our LQS come in and do basic maintenance and trouble shooting pointers for our guild on all of our machines. Then the following year they did a demo on using a serger - not necessarily quilting as much as techniques to use in sewing. We also enlist local artists/guild members to do trunkshows. This month, two of our gals are extremely talented in dyeing their own fabrics and they will be doing a trunkshow for us on their fabrics and finished quilts. Earlier this year one of the gals showed us all the things she makes from second hand/recycled materials and for the most part not from cotton and not just quilts. In Feb one of the gals took on the journey of quilting during the Civil War Era. She also passed out a cute kit to make during the discussion of a small pocket size sewing kit made of scrap pieces of wool/flannel/linen, something that was very common during this era. We have also asked members from neighboring guilds to come share a few things - one was her amazing minature quilts. Techniques are always fun but getting a bit of history, learnings new tricks of the trade, having demos on new products that are out there along the way just add to the adventure. Quilters are an amazing group of people from all walks of life. Any thing you decide to share will be sure to help someone in your group. And for the others - it will either a refresher or just a means to help them to open up and show their techigue(s) for the same item. I'm still fairly new to the quilting portion of sewing and look forward to every thing all the others have to share. We all see things with different eyes. Just have fun and it will be sure to spread. |

I saw a demo on making a scalloped edge quilt. Very interesting.

Tomorrow at our small little group I am teaching both the 10 min block cathederal and 3D pinwheels so quick and easy and fun! Heard about both on this board.

How about framed hexagons...I am addicted to them.

The Double Diamond Ruler would be a great demo. Goes quickly and cool results.
