Hi all, I want to make lap quilts for Christmas for my son and his girlfriend. He is a grad student at UCLA and she is a grad student at USC. I have the fabric but need help with a pattern.

What type of quilt---applique or pieced or some of both? Try quilterscache or Mcacalls quilting. Both have lots to pick form.
|
Do they like simple, artsy, modern? What is your skill level? Will this be an heirloom quality project, or a knockaround quilt? For wall, lap, or car?
What one person loves, another won't - you know them, judge accordingly. |
Thanks I will try that. I like to applique!
|
I just they are more modern. It would be a lap quilt to be used.
|
What about taking their school logo and appliqueing into the center then using their school colors and make patch work blocks. if you could find their school logo then you can just enlarge it to the size that you wanted.
|
How 'bout mixing school colors with batiks in a harmonic convergence quilt? It's modern, classy, adaptable, and best of all - strip pieced.
By adding borders, you can customize with personal touches - maybe using quilting stitches to add recipient's name, or a pattern suited specifically to them - like pine trees for a forestry major, fish or critters for biology, etc. http://www.rickytims.com/convergence_gallery.htm Here is a nice one Yvonne made - http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/813.page |
You all are so creative :D :D :D
|
Great idea!

How about getting fabric w/ scholl mascot or something like that? Check with Joanns or other sites that sell fabrics for different colleges.
You could also have family and friends sign or dedicate blocks and have them be incorporated to your quilt, a tshirt quilt or a photo memory quilt. Bebe |
