Your quilt is so cute and the designer has a wonderful personality as expressed in her patterns. I love her designs. Thanks for sharing.

darlings7 02-14-2011 08:03 AM

This is so beautiful, I like it just the way it is. I would love to know the pattern name also as someone else asked. It looks difficult, is it appliqued? Thanks for sharing such an uplifting quilt with us.

OMG I love your quilt. I am going to make several inches of piano border and see how it looks. Problem is I started this quilt 3 years ago and just got around to finishing (my New Year resolution) so not sure I still have all the fabrics except the blues, but going to dig into the pile and see.

Is your quilt from a pattern?

You don't need to use the same exact fabrics. Just get similar colors and it will blend nicely! Mine is from a pattern. It's called Beach Cottages, and here is a link to the pattern. http://www.etsy.com/listing/61987488...lt-pattern-pdf

Anna.425 02-14-2011 09:46 AM

I love borders but I would leave it alone. There is so much going on in the quilt and you don't want to detract from that.

I think I saw this quilt featured in a magazine at one time?????

sooo cute. I like a wider border, but that is me.

tomilu 02-14-2011 09:59 AM

It can either stand alone or add a border. Very nice top!!

dixiechunk 02-14-2011 10:03 AM

Exactly my thought.

Ditto!

Sometimes with batiks you can get away with close but not exact matches. Particularly if you have some of the original fabrics in there too. I could send you some scraps if you tell me what size piano keys you want to do and give me an idea of the colors you prefer.

Lady Crafter 02-14-2011 10:11 AM

I'm seeing the green dot that you used in the lighthouse in the second row as a border. I think that would look great as a border or binding.

MaggieLou 02-14-2011 12:27 PM

It really doesn't need a border but if you want one I would put a small one of orange to make the colors pop.

maryhopkins39 02-14-2011 12:41 PM

What a COOL Quilt!! I love theose funky lighthouses! I am of the outer borders are better school, so I say border it!I just think it looks more finished.

desertrose 02-14-2011 12:58 PM

Unless you desire it to be larger I would leave it alone. I think it was designed to be a simple binding, so it didn't detract from the whimsical lighthouses.

plmaher 02-14-2011 01:02 PM

I like the piano key border with a blue outer border- it is really cute!!

Taughtby Grandma 02-14-2011 01:58 PM

If it's the size you want it, I'd go with it the way it is. Looks great.

Mousie 02-14-2011 02:10 PM

wow, that's a great quilt

fred singer 02-14-2011 02:13 PM

I think that it is very lovely just the way it is

Orange? Never would have thought of that, but going to dig out some orange and audition! I'll let you know.

redeagle 02-14-2011 02:18 PM

I don't think it calls for a border. Think it might detract from those really great lighthouses. Agree with Julie in NM, do a scrappy binding with left over fabric.

joyceinoh 02-14-2011 02:22 PM

I love both of your quilts :o)

Looks great as is. If you need to enlarge it then you could add borders.

grannie cheechee 02-14-2011 03:32 PM

I love your lighthouses. Just leave it like it is.

Janetd 02-14-2011 03:37 PM

Love it the way it is!! It's beautiful!! Don't distract from those great blocks!

JUNEC 02-14-2011 03:37 PM

What an awesome looking quilt - just love the look of the lighthouses -

Exactly my thoughts, or if not enough fabric, a striped binding cut on the bias would look funky too.

This is what I thought, too!

Marguerite 02-14-2011 03:45 PM

It really doesn't need a border. It looks great.

RV Quilter 02-14-2011 04:16 PM

I'd leave it like it is. Looks great with lots of color. If you need it bigger add a color already in it.

Alondra 02-14-2011 04:19 PM

Move over, Charlee, I want it too. My 2-year-old granddaughter would LOVE it! Why do you feel it doesn't work?

JoAnnGC 02-14-2011 04:22 PM

I think it will look great either with or without a border...I love it!!!

jljack 02-14-2011 04:25 PM

Border, definately!! :-) I like it a lot!!

SewsonSaturday 02-14-2011 04:26 PM

leave it it looks good as it is!

How cute!

olebat 02-14-2011 04:33 PM

Sooooo Whimsical! Deciding factor # 1 - Size. How does it measure-up for the intended purpose? Does it need a border to reach the intended size? Deciding factor # 2. What color/s? Not as easy as factor #1. With such a cute top, a sparkle, or mini border would set the top into a neat frame before applying the border to achieve the size necessary. Your choices are almost limitless. The piano key would be ideal.

It's already a show stopper. Kudos.

hperttula123 02-14-2011 04:40 PM

I love your quilt how it is. It's so unique.:)
