I live in south Florida and it is still in the low 80's. Our quilt guild meets in the a.m. and most members are retired (some however are young - under 50). We dress for comfort - mostly capri pants, tee shirts, sandals or sneakers; on cool mornings - jeans or other long pant material, tee shirts, sweater and sneakers. We are very casual here. We just go for the fun.

It is really all over the place at my guild. Some of the ladies come in sweats and some come in dress clothes, jewelry, and full on make up. I think much of it has to do with where you are in life...some are coming from work some are retired...I happen to be a stay at home Mom so sometimes I am thrilled to be getting out of the house so I dress up, other times I'm so exhausted it's a feat to get into jeans!! :) So far...nobody's minded what I wear!!

DITTO.... We wear whatever we feel comfortable in. I've seen folks all the way from very well dressed to very casually dressed. At quilt camp we wear our PJ's and socks :):)

A while back I was in a Thimbleberries group. Extremely casual. The only time I ever saw anyone wear a dress was a young lady (early 20's). I remember thinking then that when I was a kid and a group of ladies met, they would all wear dresses, jewelry, makeup and nylons!

When I retired I swore to myself I would never ever wear nylons/pantyhose again! The only time I wear nice slacks and tops is for going to a wedding or a funeral. It's been nearly 15 years since I even wore a dress/skirt.

My standard attire is warm weather: jean capri's, feminine t-shirt and crocks. Cold weather: jeans, sneakers and feminine flannel shirts. I have skin allergies so no make up except for moisturizer for sensitive skin and lipstick. And always a wash and wear hairdo!

I would just take my cues from what you saw at your first meeting... I am always more comfortable being overdressed than underdressed. If you don't mind being underdressed then I'm sure no one else will mind your sneakers and jeans.

Out here in Montana jeans are almost always appropriate, some wear sweats and sneakers are always ok. Of course in winter it's what every you need to wear to stay warm LOL.

It depends on where you live. I went to guild meetings in the country and they all wore jeans and sneakers. If you go to meetings in the big city, then it's like the guild you went to. Next time, dress better than you did this time. I think it's great that you had such a good meeting. I have gone to two guild groups that were not pleasant, so be happy you enjoyed your group.

Well, I would be one of the over dressed ones at my guild meetings, but we meet in the evenings and I come directly from my office and work at the university. So, I am a little dressed up. We don't seem to notice how we are dressed. On work days we all come in our jeans and sneakers. Ah, that feels so good.

We're a mixed bag! Some are in jeans and t shirts and some are dressed like they're looking for a hot date. I'm a jeans girl, but usually wear a nice shirt. I save t shirts for around the house. I think it just depends on what you're comfortable with.

If you are feeling out of place - buy a pair of nice dockers and wear them with some slip on shoes and a nice blouse or sweater. But I feel I am going in jeans because I am a jean person when I am off work, I don't dress to impress them as I am going to learn something. Don't get me wrong I am still in my tennis shoes and a nice blouse maybe a necklace. But I am going to learn something ( I learned this from the first one I ever went to a guild meeting , a woman came up to to me and suggested next time I should wear dress pants instead of jeans and a plain blouse. I asked her if it was in the by-laws that I be required to dress up- She turned on her pump heels fancy top with oodles of jewelry;walked away and went to her clique. No holes in the jeans and the top was a nice dress shirt also with no holes in it).

I like to look nice, but that's jeans and a nice t-shirt. We have some ladies who have no money at all, and we don't care what clothes they wear, then we have the ladies who come from work all dressed up, I don't think what you wear should make a difference. And as Hillcountrygal said, "as long as you don't go naked"!!!!

Our guild members dress casually---mostly jeans and tennies. I don't think it makes any difference as long as you are dressed neatly.

Most of us at mine dress comfy casual...not like pj pants, tho....lol...I have been to a few other quilds, and there are some people who really dress up! As long as everyone is treated the same, I don't think it matters what you wear...I don't "do" snobbery, but have been with people who are "under dressed" and seem "uppity" and some who are elegantly dressed and been so kind...you just never know...I know for me, I want to enjoy myself when I am there, and for me that means casual pants or in summer capris...and the main thing I love about my guild is how different we all may be, and yet we all get along so great...being accepted for being yourself is a wonderful thing!

I belong to two guilds. The smaller guild meets in the day time and the usual dress is casual. The larger guild meets in the evening and the usual dress is casual tho some of the members look like they just rolled out of bed. I go with the casual look and even if I wear jeans I try to have a nice top, jewelry and a jacket - depends on the weather.

didn't know there was a dress code for the Quilt Guild......just like there is no dress code for Walmart

Our guild is full of wonderful ladies! Mostly dressed casual. No one seems to notice what others are wearing. We have a delightful, funny president who makes us all laugh. Humor is great for making people comfortable. I have felt welcomed there since I joined a year ago. I really look forward to going. As for dress for me, warm in the winter and cool in the summer...

I am thinking of joining a guild so I was interested in this thread. And Winia, I loved your answer!

If its Summer, most of us wear jeans or capris and t-shirt or nice blouse and sandals or running shoes, not that they've ever been run in. :D Living in central Texas demands comfy cotton clothing in the summer.
Winter its jeans and a top. I have 2 fancy jackets made with lovely quilt blocks and other pieced sections.
Some of us are in dressy casual, because they have to go to work after the guild meeting. We meet in the morning from 9:30am-noonish.

If I had to get real fancy I would rather stay home. Anywhere my jeans and tennis shoes are not welcome I don't want to go (except church)

I'm with you BellaBoo! I don't always feel good, but looking better sure gives you a better presentation about yourself. We have a large membership-300, and are in casual Florida, so we get a good mixture. As long as they are not sloppy anything goes, but I personally prefer makeup, heels and I'll do jeans as long as they aren't "Mommy" jeans!

No one dresses up for our guild meetings. As some said above, coming from work, they might be in jeans and shirt, or nice casual.
I usually wear a nice slack set, and in the Summer, capris or walk shorts. No one seems to care what others wear.

I live in Florida so it's pretty casual, t-shirts and capris mostly. We're so busy looking at the show and tell quilts that nobody pays attention to what people are wearing. BTW I see young girls out in pjs all the time. Apparently fleece pants, t-shirt, and fuzzy slippers are appropriate for fast food restaurants, just not for my age group.

Finally there is someone that agrees with me that jeans are not comfortable. I asked my 45 year old daughter, with a knock out figure and thinks there are actually "dress jeans", if she felt comfortabe in them and she admitted that she did not. It is yet one more miserable thing you do to be fashionable. I am so glad I have out grown that stage of life.

jeans--sweat shirt (usually decorated with something quilty) tennis shoes. Very casual. Summer time, tee shirts (again usually has something quilty, sandals. I know some guilds "dress" up for meetings, but our guild is very casual. Its come as you are and if you forget the makeup--oh well.

I'd say our guild is casual - wear whatever you want and what makes you comfortable.

This is the same for me. Most in casual pants or jeans, a T-shirt, blouse or sweater. Lots of capris in the warmer months. Some gals come directly from work and they are dressed up a bit more, but not suits. I'd say most just want to dress comfortably and look at all the quilts in Show and Tell or the speakers goods. We do have workshop "hands on" classes sometimes, then it's dress in whatever you don't care about getting paint or dye on.

Our evening guild is really large, you see everything from designer outfits and office wear, to artsy fartsy, plenty of jeans and tennis shoes ... even one lady that always wears bib overalls ... but they are always appliqued or embellished !! LOL ... to each their own ...

you had a chance to observe the members. base your choice on what you saw there. every guild most likely has their own clothing comfort level.

I am not one to notice clothes very much, but I do admire the quilted jackets and vests and people often wear.

I too have only gone to a few guild meetings, but I would say that it is a bit dressier than what you would wear to Walmart. ---If you were dressing for Walmart. I wear make up, I also wore a nicer top, and slacks. I didn't feel like I was underdressed. I don't know if this is different in different parts of the country, but it is sounding like most folks around the country dress pretty much the same. Our president wore a dress, she introduced the speaker, and did the meeting.
