How do I rate myself as a quilter? As my grandmother use to say "fair to middlin" ;-)

It's hard to even know how to judge-one time I'd say intermediate and then I see quilt shows or some of the ones on this board and I am certainly humbled to ..."I gotta LONG way to go!!" Enjoying it all and still love to learn!

I've been quilting on and off for 25 years. Just in the last 7 have I really put my heart and soul into it.....raising kids winding down. I will never consider myself 'accomplished'. Once I master it, I will move on to something else....so no point in striving for mastery because this is what I love to do. As long as I am pleased, then that is good enough for me. If it is an expecially challenging quilt, as long as I know I put my best effort forth, I embracing the 'oops'. My big challenge right now....free motion quilting. With each quilt I make...wow! I see progress! That thrills the daylights out of me!!!

But I still look at some of the work on this board and feel so inferior. I think a lot of quilters feel like I do. But I also know quilters who have made ONE wall hanging and feel like they are ready to start teaching classes.

With an avatar like yours, I would definitely rate you very HIGH!!!!!!!!
Absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you so much!

Fair to middlin' with a chance of improvement. I generally don't rate myself because the joy and satisfaction of FINISHING a reasonable piece feels so much better than the comparison to others or the pointing out of mistakes.

It depends.......I've been hand quilting for 20+ years so feel fairly comfortable, but I am definitely a newbie at FMQ as I'm just beginning to practice. It's that way with old comfortable techniques or the new techniques :D :D

Piecing would be a different rating than quilting.

I never rate myself,...... I let others do that job.

This ! Haha. I was starting to think I was getting pretty good, but I've only done a handful of quilt tops (10 maybe?) and only machine quilted a few!

Really? I am a beginner, but I guess I learn fast? I took a quilt top that I finished for my MIL to a LQS for her to quilt on her long arm. I was disappointed in the end result :( I thought "I could do better than that" so I started trying, and you know what? I was right ! I want to be as good as Patsy Thompson - but I am NO WHERE close. But I keep trying.
