I sew in spurts.Somedays I can spend almost an entire day sewing ,then I will take a break on other days to do something else.

If I averaged it out, it would probably amount to three hours a day. Maybe more. I usually don't notice the passage of the hours. But I DO know that there are some days when I can't quilt at all. And some days I have to sew instead of piece. That's the way it goes. Weekends my DH is home and we do things together, like gardening or go out someplace. So it's rare to get into my quilting room at all on weekends. 8-)

Pretty much 24/7. I can do mostly what I want with my time. I'm so lucky to have my grown son living in my house..he does most of the housework & we rotate cooking chores. My 91-yr-old Dad lives with me too & I do have SOME responsiblity for him, but he's a quilter too, so we always have something to talk about. Those of you who are still working outside the home can look forward to the day you've earned your retirement & hopefully you'll be as lucky as I am.

Retirement is probably not going to happen here. I am 8 years older than my husband, I carry the insurance, his job doesn't even offer it. He had a pituitary tumor removed last year and is on every artificial hormone they make. He would have no wages left if he had to buy these hormones without the insurance. I could draw SS next year, but can't stop working because of the insurance. What a let down.

LOL, my DH says the same thing. *When are you going to sew something?*. Makes me soooo mad. He doesn't realize I DO sew. I have 4 quilt tops done, just waiting for quilting. 2 quilt tops and a tabletopper in the works. Plus several in the planning stage. I've finished several smaller projects, he just doesn't notice. He thinks sewing is making clothes. Always asking me to sew buttons on. GRRRRR |

Thank you Dori, It gets to me mentally more so then physically. Thanks to Lynnejean here on the board, I go to her house once a week for a few hours, yet I'm only 10 minutes away if he needs me. Usually he just sleeps while I'm gone. Sewing has been my salvation and Lynnejean really motivates me. And DH encourages me to get out. But at the same time, what else do you do? I love the guy with all my heart and would be totally lost without him. We are celebrating 23 years this month. I'm hoping we make it to 25 to celebrate our silver aniversary! |
Usually I spend a few hours at it. Some day are better then others. If I start having brian freeze I just walk away for a while.

I sew in spirts, I take time to eat eye candy and pull out all the patterns I really want to make one day then pull out my material and lay it all around or pin it on my design wall and look and enjoy until it tells me it wants to be finished. Then I cut and sew and to heck with housework. I just barely cook. I am always in one of those stages. I have finished 5 tops since May but have not done any quilting. I am now starting a hand embrodiary quilt top and hope to have it finished and quilted by December. When I get the fever it will be finished in no time. Gail
