I love all this talk about our security. I only use my credit at a couple places, and some on the internet. The other day I was called by the bank to verify that I had bought 2 tickets to Argentina on Brazilian Airlines, for $5,573. She said they likely stole my # somehow. Now I have a new credit card and am still waiting for that charged to get taken off the bill. So when Secret Santa is over I will return from the North Pole.

I agree, so I have changed my location. I have looked for fellow quilters in my area and those I visit, too.

I replied to this somewhere before, but I have another idea. It would be nice to have your name at the end of your post, as Joyce has. I many times wonder who said that, especially when they are answering another post. I like when I can see the name at the bottom and not have to look back at their post information.

I am probably the queen of paranoia when it comes to the web...but posting your state ? States are big, areas!
There is an app that people can get that will find the EXACT GPS coordinates from any pic taken by cell phone...now that's scary to me! |

Example: Linda is looking for a LQS to take classes. But because she doesn't have even her state on her profile everyone is trying to find where she's at so they can recommend a shop. Mark wants to purchase a new machine and asks for help. But again WE don't know where he lives. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've looked at a profile to get an idea of where someone is from or sent a PM to several people only to find someone close to me. I understand protecting your information (I'm hardcore about shredding everything that comes in my house with my name on it) but I really think giving your state isn't getting too personal. If you don't agree then I will understand.
Happy and safe holidays to everyone! You don't have to put much to give a decent location. I'm in SW Indiana---------So I'm close to western Kentucky and SE Illinois. I'm 4 hours from several major cities, and a hour away from a bunch of smaller cities. "Indiana" alone won't say much. I'm closer to Missouri, Tennessee, Ohio and a few other places than I am Elkhart or Fort Wayne, even though they are in Indiana. |

I was very reluctant at first to put that info in my profile. But once I realized that no harm has come to all those who have their location.. and how much I liked seeing where everyone is in the world..I posted mine.
So, you are either 50 miles from me or almost 500! |

I don't see any problem with posting your city and state. I have met a few "neighbors" and I can't see any problem. I also agree, people with bad intentions don't need a social network to find you if they want.

I don't know why the world is so paranoid. I posted in the past just general information and received feedback similar to "you can't be too careful". PEOPLE MIGHT FIND YOU!!!! LOL Well, lets hope so, since I'm trying to quilt for a business, I hope LOTS of people find me. For me, I don't want to be hidden - why else would I blog or comment on here or any other site concerning sewing. As for stalkers, if they're not interested in buying a quilt and looking to harm - remember the sign : "Never mind the dog, beware of owner". :)

I'm new here and would LOVE to find someone near Circleville, Ohio to help me. I also enjoy seeing where people are from.
