I like to make quilts that:
-inspire me to jump in to the fabric stash -have a recipient in mind, mostly for comfort and joy -are colorful -don't take more than 2 months to finish -have motion but aren't busy -fully cover the user from head to over-the-toes I like to look at quilts that -have multiple subpatterns within -are whimsical -use color in a unique way -are symmetrical |
That are easy to do but look intricate
That let my kids know they were made for them with my love That help me learn something new |
Have been made for ME. Being a quilter myself I have never been given a quilt. I do LOVE making and giving my quilts away.

I like (to make) quilts that...
...are fun to put together ...are a challenge to put together ...have lots of colors, are scrappy and/or "crazy" ...are my own design ...feature a lot of jewel tones offset by black ...have a geek/science/technology theme ...are a gift for someone special I like (to look at) quilts that... ...are made by someone I know ...are made by a new quilter (I love to cheer beginners on!) ...feature a lot of handwork such as piecing, quilting, or embroidery embellishments ...have so much going on that I have to look and look and look and still keep finding new things ...have really good, inspiring FMQ ...are really detailed art quilts where I have to almost touch it with my nose to see what's going on ...make me stop and think, or have an emotional impact ...feature clever jokes or puns (hidden or obvious) ...won't leave my mind, to the point I have to go back and look some more ...are "landscape" quilts featuring local places/images ...are really complex designs I don't think I'll ever do myself ...are modern and challenge tradition ...are traditional, homey favorites Mostly it could be shortened to simply "I like quilts" and be spot-on accurate! I've seen quilts that brought up feelings of shock and horror due to the subject matter, but I still like the quilt itself, if that makes any sense. |
