I vote for #1

"Low Volume" is a term I just learned to describe subdued colors that blend together. That's what this top says to me. Very nice.

Subdued - yes - but very soothing. I like the second layout just a tad better

Number 1 is my favorite.

I agree with your original thoughts...#2 is too busy for the fabric.
And although "plain," #1 seems to work nicely.

I like the second layout better. I like the fabrics, very restful and tranquil.

Love the first layout. I even love the colors!! It's gonna look great when its done!

I prefer #2. Since the fabrics are neutrals, it gives more umph to the quilt. I don't think it's too busy.

I love the fabrics and really like layout 2 the best
