Many years ago when my three kids were little, I ran away from home for one night. I was getting 'over-emotional' from never sleeping a night without interruptions, from mountains of diapers (remember, this was a long time ago), from little ones pulling on my pants legs. DH handed me the car keys and told me to take some time for myself. (I'm sure it was survival for him as I really was becoming a 'not very nice person'. I ran away to Des Moines (about 2 hours from where we lived) and stayed all night in a motel. It was the best thing I could have ever done! By the time I got up the next morning I was missing my family like crazy and couldn't wait to get home.

I think it was the idea that I COULD get away if I had to that made this the only run-away I ever did. After that trip, I never needed to disappear again.

I recommend it highly.

I'd like to run away right now. Have been canning tomatoes and picante sauce for the last 4 days. I am tired but OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH it is so good. I have gained about four lbs too. Not from the tomatoes but from the chips that I've been dipping into the sauce with  Let me know when you decide to run away again Gail G. Maybe we can meet half way and shop together.

"running away" is a good mental health journey. Getting time for one's self is important. Most of us who do the cooking, cleaning, laundry are sometimes taken for granted and no one hestiates to call on us to do things for them; soooooooo we should love ourselves enough to do things we enjoy now and then. It rejuvinates us to do for our families.

#1 Piecemaker, My DH and I were talking about that last night. He said that you're not really that far away from me. That would be fun.

So true. I was amazed how I was ready to get back in the swing of things just after a few hours of doing my thing.
