ok, no laughing...
I have a pegboard and a 5' long dresser that has shelving on top with notebooks and books going to the ceiling.
All total I have (not counting the shelves I just mentioned of course), 8 sets of shelving, so the point is...no one can tell what color my walls are
When this was DD's room, she painted three walls creamy white, and one a deep, deep burgundy solid, bc she put up a border with those colors and some yellowy beige flowers on it.
They match the huge oriental rug covering the entire floor.
My space past the entry is 11' x13'.
So...to sum it all up if I were asked, "What color are the walls in your sewing room?"
My answer would be: "Fabric" ;) :!:

I have painted my sewing room two shades of pink. One wall only is painted a darker pink. Of course the colors are called something else, has been over two years and can't remember the names. My two windows, one facing true south, the other west, let bright light in but not direct sun expect in late winter because of the roof overhang. My room is a bit cramped but it all works.

Quilteddove I LOVE your room. Looks like you have enough room for all of us to come and play.

Sandy you could do a double color paint job like a yellow color on top and a second color on the bottom like maybe a mint green and to make it really set off you could do a painted stripe in the middle where the two colors come together. Just an idea, gg I haven't been dreaming of a sewing room.

Janetlmt 06-05-2010 01:21 PM

Yellow is my favorite color..but the blue and pink is nice too. I started to do some reorganizing last night...didn't get to far..I keep checking QB. There is a clothing closet in my sewing room and I threw a hint at DH to take the doors off of it and put shelving in it..then I can store more fabric! I call my sewing room my sanctuary.

Janetlmt 06-05-2010 01:23 PM

I saw the orange walls, LOL..reminds me of my son. He bought a house a few years ago. His favorite color is orange..so the bedroom is orange, his hall way, his dinning room and his kitchen all orange. It grows on you.
I like the sponging you did over top of it.

kwiltkrazy 06-05-2010 01:42 PM

Mine is a medium soft pink, and I love it. I got it back this week as my youngest son just moved away from home. The happy mixed with the sad. I'm officially an EMPTY-NESTER.

QuiltingGrannie... I love your room w/flowers! And Quilted Dove, my favorite color is soft yellow. So why is my room beige w/mauve and dark green?? I don't know  But I haven't changed the colors in 16 yrs. This used to be my office, but as of this week it is now my sewing room!

Nanjun 06-06-2010 03:26 AM

My sewing room is painted an off white with laminate floor.

pollyjvan9 06-06-2010 04:14 AM

My room is celery green, with bright white trim. I like it because it goes with anything. Unfortunately, my room is also my den but it is hard to tell because of all the sewing items, but I do need extra seating and play room when all the kids and grandkids and great grandkid are here.

I agree. Light green is the color of my room now. It faces the north east and even on a hot day, it still seems cool. Good luck.

Sandy

I painted mine a slightly off shade of white - sort of between white and ecru. The quilts on the wall really stand out. I used semi-gloss and it always seems to shine new <G>

I have 2 sewing rooms. One for sewing the other is more my craft room/storage.

My sewing room is Pepto Bismol Pink, was suppose to be Mauve (which it kinda is) But it works for a sewing room.

My Craft/Storage/Computer room is plaster, we stripped the walpaper and never painted it. Some day I'll clean it out.

I love both room, but wish they were ONE. Someday I'll post pictures.

My walls are painted cream with wallpaper on lower half but there isn't very much wall space.

One wall is all window, another is doorway and cupboards with design wall hanging in front. What walls are left are covered by desk and cutting/painting table and my paintings.

katsewnsew 06-06-2010 05:29 AM

My sewing room is in the basement, so I opted for white walls with blue carpeting. No windows, boo!!! But the white walls make up for it and the lighting is important. Carpeting, well, if it were not in the basement, I would have put in hardwood flooring. The berber carpeting is not so bad, although I am on my 3rd vacuum cleaner for the basement!

sahm4605 06-06-2010 05:46 AM

my sewing room is a small corner of the living room that I have taken over because I was tired of pulling the sewing machine in and out of the box and closet every time I wanted to sew. It is painted a lovey Tuscan creamy yellow with this textured venetian plaster. Well all the walls except for the walls around the fire place they are paneling and have to be replaced before we can finish the venetian plaster look. It is all really cool and warm. just need to get a fan in here to help circulate the air because of the vaulted ceiling.

quilter41 06-06-2010 05:57 AM

I painted the top pale yellow and the bottom deep red. There was already a chair rail. Then I added some sunflowers on top of the armoire. I have a laminated floor and love it. My room is only 9' x 9' and faces north with one window. I enjoy sewing here and find the colors enjoyable. :-P

Pickle 06-06-2010 06:02 AM

HI, Just got my sewing room painted. It is a soft yellow and I am very happy with it. I also used to have carpeting in my sewing room which was once a bedroom for the grand kids, whom are ll grown up now. But any way my DH put in laminate floor for me and you can really scoot around fast with your chair thats for sure, I had to put a plastic rug protector under my chair at the machine because when I pushed on the pedal to sew my chair would slide back.
Good luck with you color choice.

julroc 06-06-2010 06:03 AM

My sewing room is in the basement and I don't have a large window so I wanted my room painted yellow. It's not bright in fact it looks like the same color as "thequilteddove's" yellow room. It's cheery and really makes me want to spend time there. Where I have my longarm used to be the room where the pool table was so it's painted a light grey which is still ok because it is a bright room when my lights are all turned on and I get cheery color from the quilts I have hanging all around.

ProudGranny5 06-06-2010 06:09 AM

My DD's old bedroom has become my sewing room. Don't laugh..LOL.. BUT 2 walls are white & 2 walls are black. The slant side ceiling on the 1 side has black & white checkered contact paper. NEVER look up!!! She also but a trim of white & black diamonds around the 3 other side walls. I made sheer black curtains for her. It has grown on me, but as I said... 'I never look up' as the checkered side makes you a bit woozy.
With 11 surgeries in the last 10 years, I have yet to repaint it..but will get there. Thinking about a springy pale green..transquility for me all the way. I have the 'old' style of hardwood floors, so thinking maybe a little darker green for that. Maybe IF I get creative, I might put a design in the middle of the floor instead of a small area rug.
Just waiting for doc's approval to more on now.

My sewing room/office is a mixture that our builder came up with. I guess never to be duplicated. It is beige, but has different hues when the sun hits it. But I like it and has a warm feeling. I don't have a lot of wall space because we had 2 large windows put in so I have great natural light. Our main living area has wood floors, but we decided that a wood floor would take a beating with the way I like to move things around.

We chose a soft vinyl flooring (light gray/blue) with a little cushion in it. My feet love it when I am standing up for cutting. It cleans up great.

sandyl 06-06-2010 06:42 AM

We have hardwood in our kitchen and the dogs nails make marks. I'm thinking the chair scooting across hardwood in my room would be tracked with the chair rollers. Opinions?

Glenda Kay 06-06-2010 07:19 AM

Last year we bought a foreclosure house that had been empty. We had it completely remodeled & the whole house inside is painted a light cream color except for the big family room which has paneling. I like the cream color, it is warm, yet light. I have a daybed in my sewing room so it can be used as a spare bedroom. Would like a larger room but am glad to have a room at all. I can always use the kitchen table or one of the beds or the floor to lay out my quilts.

starlight 06-06-2010 07:28 AM

I have a soft lavender on my walls. Only one window that doesn't get much light. I do have carpeting in my sewing room but wish that it was something else so that it was easier to clean up.

MsSewer 06-06-2010 07:41 AM

light blue

zactanls 06-06-2010 07:43 AM

I have like a light tan. Sorry no picture at this time. I have an area rug and tile. Unfortunately it seems that all of the rooms have something of my sewing room in them. I need a whole new area to store my stash

Merrilin 06-06-2010 07:49 AM

I want your sewing room Eddie.

Mary Bird 06-06-2010 07:56 AM

My sewing studio is painted a very pale aqua. My favorite color in my favorite room! The ceiling is the same, but the wood trim and cabinets are white. I have carpet and love it, since pins stick in it with the point down!

Yes, it will leave marks. That is why I put vinyl flooring in my room. As an example, I was having to use a walker in March, due to knee replacement surgery. What that did to our wood floors amazed me. Luckly we have a good coating and we have finally got rid of the marks. I love our wood floors, but I didn't think it would work well for me in my sewing room. I don't want to have to be that careful.

mzsooz 06-06-2010 08:01 AM

My room is in the basement but it has two 4X4 windows in it. Which means really deep window wells. When I look out all I see is the ugly metal from the sides of the well and gravel and weeds in the bottom :( The windows face south so I do get some light.

My walls are a light mauve and I have a wallpaper border with hummingbirds on it. The carpet is a dark brown, wish I could have bamboo flooring but that will never happen!

Right now my room is almost unusable because my daughter and her husband moved back in and every room in the house is full of their stuff!! And soon it will be baby stuff when she has her baby!

bstanbro 06-06-2010 08:03 AM

My walls are plain white, but they are covered by hanging quilts and thread racks.

if the wood grain isnt broken you can take a dap cloth and heat it with your iron to raise the wood grain and remove the marks

suedonnie 06-06-2010 08:47 AM

mine is soft yellow with white trim. very relaxing....my happy place

reach for the stars 2 06-06-2010 09:00 AM

Been thinking what to paint mine. I was leaning toward a green shade or shade of yellow.

auntmag 06-06-2010 09:16 AM

My room is a soft pink, but I am thinking of changing it to a dark taupe. The floor is vinyl.

marla 06-06-2010 09:35 AM

I used a colr by Sherwin Williams called Hinoki 7686, a yellow that blends well with the green, gold and lt beige muted plaid drapes and lt. beige carpet. The woods in the room are dk maple and I have black frames on pictures. Mr Sewing table is white but I would like to paint that to go with everything. The doors and trim are white.

deeceem 06-06-2010 09:37 AM

Orangey yellow. Bright.

irma tapia 06-06-2010 09:39 AM

I just painted my sewing room about a month ago the color is Shewin-Williams Sofened Gree and I love it because is so soothing.

I still have carpet in my room but would love wooden floors.

Have fun choosing. A 'new' room is wonderful!

I have yellow, too, but it is a brighter, more sunshine yellow with 'retro' curtains that have green, pink and lavender. It's more fun than the rest of the house!

I just saw you have the same cabinets I just put into my newly created quilting room! (The same top too!) I recently had the 1970s dark paneling taken down and painted my new walls a very neutral, light beige. I don't want the color of the walls to make the colors of my fabrics look different than they really are. I had the dark, dark, shelving painted a glorious, bright, washable, shiny white. I did put beige, soft, soft, s...o....f....t carpeting in there as my grandchildren play there and love to sleep on the rug! Since the room is on a cement slab it is cold there and carpet is the way to go. I bought a new chocolate brown couch and as soon as the money builds up again, I want to put in a white cabinet with a new TV. My work table for my machine is my old desk which is the color of the cabinets mentioned before. I have five of those plastic wheeling cabinets with four drawers in them and I am currently sorting my stash into colors, collections, children's fabric, dots, etc and I hope to get MOST of the stash in them. I do have big, flat plastic, under the bed type storage that holds my fat quarters and that will go under my long folding table which I cut and iron on. It is great fun to be reorganizing and hopefully I will have pictures to post in the near future. The room makes me happy! I am very lucky to have a room to do my creative work in. Good luck to all of you with yours.
