I can't find pictures right now but I did Ele's, single Irish, double and Triple and all of my patterns call for 2 1/2". I do alot of her quilts and love the fact that I never have to worry about numbers for the most part.

Full quilt - 3.5, baby quilt 2.5.

I made a triple irish chain for one of my family reunion quilts - red, white and blue, and I'm pretty sure I used the 2 1/2" strips, they come out a nice size that way.

For my personal preference I would use the smaller strips. I like to see more chains, rather than fewer.

Ellen Hopkins (author and quiltmaker) says you 'go uptown a lot quicker' with smaller squares, but if you need a quilt done in a hurry, use larger squares. i've used 1 1/2 inch and they look great. I use 1 1/2 inch for log cabin, too..

I did 2 1/2 in. from Quilt in a Day. My book had all sizes from crib to king and they all call for 2 1/2 ins.
