looking at your ironing board legs, I found them to be the same as mine and mine wobble also.
the boards where the legs have two smaller legs from them seem to work much better than the ones with a bar across the bottom like the one shown. this one seems more stable |
Try a Bed Bath & Beyond, or Marshalls, if you have them in your area.
Our BBB has several four footed boards and more than one Rowenta ironing board model. My favorite board is a Rowenta, four separate feet instead of a T-bar for front and back legs. It doesn't wobble. Bad part: I did have to save up for a few months to pay the price. They aren't inexpensive. Aardie. |

the wider apart the pairs of points are, the more stable the board will be. I've had my ironing board for 64 years. It has three-point contact and is as sturdy as you can get. Have often thought of buying one that you can adjust the height, but after using the new ones, I'll stick to mine. I know it's not going to tip on me. |
Scissor Queen That's the one I bought. It takes up a lot of room but it sure is built to last. I turn the big end toward the front, much easier to iron blocks and fabric on the big end. I keep thinking I'll ask DH to make a big board for me. Half ironing surface half cutting surface.

to hold my pressing clothes which I never could find before. |

Chris - Could you post a pic and explain what your DH did to make the Big Board?
If you do a search there are several pictures of Big Boards and I remember a couple that explained how they made theirs.
Hey, LockEb (I think?) and I have both posted how tos. Here is a link to my tutorial document as an attachment. Aardie. |
Thanks a lot Aardie!!!! Great info!! My DH is gone golfing with his friends this weekend so when he comes back he will 'owe' me :) This will be a perfect project for him when he gets back!!

I too have an old wooden board that was given to me after I lost everything in an apartment fire 45 years ago. It is a bit heavier, but very solid... no wobbles. I have kept it all these years because it's easy to set up and just doesn't break. I love it and will never give it up. This doesn't answer your question today, but had to comment on this oldie and goodie.
