Have you ever used Bottom Line thread? It is a wonderful fine thread and just disappears into your quilt. You can use it for bobbin or top thread. It's wonderful!

I've made two identical tops to make a reversible quilt. I did the Warm Wishes with Violins on one side and Baseball on the other, my GS's favorite things. I had to do this because I couldn't get the coordinating fabrics to match for both focus fabrics. Now, here's the rub, I have the same problem with coordinating thread for quilting it. DUH! Didn't think about that 'til it's time to quilt it for Christmas.
Can I use smoke aurifil invisible thread in top and bottom? I'm thinking not. Need suggestions and a brain implant if you have one to spare. :) I think I've used my last brain cell on this silly thing. TIA baseballs and violins??????????? I'd look for a beige/tan/brown thread and then keep the quilting pattern fairly simple. |
I've done it with good results. I really had to tighten the bobbin tension and only filled the bobbin about half full. The invisible thread is so fine I found that a half full bobbin worked better. Good luck and please post pictures.

I just read recently, that when you can't choose take the darker thread over the lighter. And stop making your brain hurt. This is a quilt for a boy...it will pucker, it will wrap his sweaty body, it will be dragged everywhere he thinks to drag it....I don't think he's going to even be aware of the quilting thread unless it was pink!

How about a varigated thread? I pretty much always use one color on top and a different one for the bottom. I almost always use variagted threads on the top.

How about finding a variegated thread that has colors for both sides of the quilt. I have found that if you pull off a little of the thread and lay in a random design on the quilt it is amazing how the colors will work. Sometimes the one that you least expect to look good.

I agree with "jgriinke". Find a variegated thread, perhaps in neutrals? (but it doesn't matter) or in a coordinated color scheme and go for it!
Also "leighway" is correct... and in the end, it will be lovely, because it's filled with LOVE! |

On the quilting, I'd go for something like a meander - so if there is a bit of slippage on the lining up of the two sides, it won't really matter. It's really really hard to line up a top and bottom exactly. |
How about a variegated thread? I have often used both Rayon and regular variegated threads on my quilts, gives them a little dimension and might solve the coordinating thread problem.

I just use neutral gray and an off white--whichever works best.
