I have the same problem with my janome 6600. I took it in to the dealer and the guy said I was not stepping on the pedal correctly. :) I have only been sewing for 50 years or so. It is a little hard to believe that I have not been stepping on the pedal correctly all this time. I will have to check out the lint thing. You may find this hard to believe but I have found that if you turn it upside down and step on the button instead of using it the correct way it does better. Also have any of you noticed on what I am calling the button on the bottom there are grooves wearing in the side?

Huh?? I did not realize there was an incorrect way to step on the pedal! How were you using it?


My friend Cindi had the same issue with her Janome; her husband took the pedal apart, found all kinds of dust, lint, and hair in it. Cleaned it out and it's been running fine ever since!

My DH cleaned mine out once. Then, I think I'm starting to have problems again--need to clean it out again, I think. Funny that foot pedals for Janomes are cheaper here in Poland. I think they are about $60.

My janome was doing this, I took the pedal aprat cleaned and lubricated it and its fine. A new pedal in the UK is £70 which is about $115.

Janome foot pedals are notorious for doing this. Daughter even had Kenmore made by janome that did it.

I must be the lucky one. I have a Janome 6500P that I bought close to 5 years ago and have not had any problem with it so far anyway. We do have a cat and a dog too......good information and will be watching!!

Funny - I had a bad habit of using JUST my big toe on the pedal. Couldn't figure out why my foot ached so weirdly until I realized that's how I was sewing, had to switch feet for awhile and teach myself new habits! So there's ONE wrong way to do it! LOL

I too had this problem, my machine even started sewing one day when I was in the other room pressing.

I FEEL THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND REPORTED IT TO CONSUMER SAFETY COUNCIL. I was not given much attention as there were not other reports of this happening. I brought it to the attention of the company and the retailer where I bought mine. All indicated they had never heard of this problem before. Mine is a Kenmore, but is made by Janome.

I think everyone should be reporting this as a safety concern. Fingers and even stray kitty or puppy parts could be injured by this unpredictable sewing.

Cleaning the foot pedal did correct the problem, however, something like this should NOT be happening at all. I've had lots of machines with foot pedals and never had this issue, so surely there is some design change that needs to be made to make these machines safe.

What a jerk. I would have said show me the correct way and then had my phone ready to take a video of him showing me. I would have made a big production out of him doing it many times just so I could get it exactly right.

If you take your Janomefoot pedal apart, be very careful. If that spring comes out it is impossible to return it to it's former position. Ask me how I know! LOL my cord got twisted and jammed inside. In trying to fix it, the spring flew out. DH ended up fixing it so it doesn't retract. Not really a problem as I don't transport the machine. He has taken the foot controlers apart and cleaned them and I had one replaced as it was under warranty. It seems to be an issue with Janome.
