this is awesome!!!

I did not know this was happening this weekend as I have not been into the Board for a while. I am working on a very pink quilt on the long arm. Just took a break and thought I would check in to see what was going on here on The Board--always something I know. Will post a pic later and now I am back to the machine. We had a long snow shower and now I see blue skies. I have a studio in my basement so I am off there to continue now.

I'm struggling with a quilt that I'm rapidly growing tired of, and I began it for the worst of reasons, because I had 27 small HSTs I made from triangle scraps from a former project....in order not to throw them away. After looking at countless patterns on how to use these things, and buying more fabric to go with them (sometimes the idea of "saving" becomes unbelievably ironic!), I made several more and sewed them together as center pinwheels for a larger block. Well, HSTs--and pinwheels--and I don't always get along and some of the pinwheels are apparently too distorted to use, I discovered last night as I was sewing strips on all four sides. (The points didn't come out right where the strips join on some of them). Anyway, about to throw the whole mess in the trash because I was not about to make all the new HSTs I would need, I realized that I could salvage the quilt pattern by alternating the pinwheel center blocks with 4 patch center blocks, using the same fabric. I think it may look as if I planned it that way.....and if not, then I'll only be out a little time and effort and fabric, and can still throw it in the trash.

So that's what I'm working on today-- a "fix". If it looks okay, I'll post pictures later. If not, assume it's in the garbage pail. Although I never throw fabric away -- assuming there's a way around every mistake -- I've decided life is too short -- and I have too much other fabric -- to spend days on something with which I've become totally disenchanted and which is not working.

So that's my Virtual Quilt Weekend....or Saturday, anyway.....

Hello everyone, I will join you too! I am quilting this weekend. Love all the projects that have been shown already!

My first picture is my work table with several quilts-in-progress. Right now I'm selecting scraps to put together for a Chunky Churn Dash quilt (Bonnie Hunter/Quiltville). You can see my process in the foreground. Behind that are other projects, like a yet-to-be-cut flannel ragg quilt and a couple of baby quilts.

The second picture shows the approximate layout of part of my Chunky Churn Dash. I decided to go with black and white for the background, so the colors of the blocks would be showcased.

Last photo shows an Irish Chain baby quilt I need to finish quilting. I have a lot on my plate this weekend! Good thing it's a long one!

I'm quilting this weekend! I started a log cabin variation last week that'll be queen-sized. It's a pattern from Quilter's World 12/09 called Logged Elegance. An easy pattern, but a 'boring' UFO I'm hoping will be pretty when done. I've had it in my to-do's for a few years and will be our bedspread when done. I figure, I either had to paint the bedroom for a quilt I really love (Civil War quilt) or make a quilt that matches the existing paint for another couple of years. The UFO quilt is an easier project for the time being. My husband doesn't understand the logic of painting the bedroom for coordinating with a quilt (moving furniture isn't easy), so I hope this UFO quilt will be pleasing for us both.

I've got the border of the Air Force quilt and I've squared up the corners. I had planned on another border double the width of the first one, but the top seems to have "enough." It's a chevron and the 2" border stops the eye pretty well. I've afraid to over shoot by putting another border. I think I'll make the sandwich and get ready to do some machine quilting.....not sure how to quilt it since I'm limited in DSM quilting. Also have the binding strips cut and ready to piece all together. I'm done for the day.

Ok catching on with this post really did motivate me. I got the quilting done and the quilt off the frame. I am headed back downstairs to trim it up and get the binding on. If I am not too tired after all that I will put the last border on a jelly roll race quilt. And tomorrow, what will I work on?--that remains to be seen. I have 10 more paperpieced blocks to do for a swap so I might have to do at least one of those just to not overwhelm myself when they come due.

I didn't make much progess tonight in my quilting. I've seriously never broken a needle before during handquilting, but I broke two (!) of them tonight. Just...snap, and I had two pieces in my hand - or better said, one piece in my hand and one in the fabric. I lost a third needle, which I did eventually find, but all of that didn't really help my progress much. *sigh* Hopefully, tomorrow things will go better.

On the bright side, my quilting stitches look pretty good :D
