Sue, I smiled when I read this, because I have the same problem. No body in Texas knows what Maypo is and I have fond memories of eating it and watching the commercials.

Born and raised outside of NYC....I remember Maypo! It was such a thrill to me when my mother bought it!

what do they do if someone wants a bolt from the bottom of one of those piles?

don't know why I'm going to ask this- where is Obie's? do they have a website?

but love your selection of fabrics and I do love Lancaster- went to college there.

I did puchase things there. Some of my favorite fabric that I bought on this trip. I actually ask them how they would get a fabric from the bottom of the stack if I wanted it. They said they just wiggle & pull until they get it. They were extremely nice & helpful to me.

But the main question is, how were the prices at Obie's?

LOL. I did not even begin to put a dent in all the fabric there.

I would go in with you. It is a bit scarry but I still had fun.

I have been to Obie's twice, and it IS an experience you won't get anywhere else. This year there were at least three "avalanches" of bolts falling over and blocking the aisle. One of them fell on me as I was standing and not touching anything and the bolts just came down on my back. It can be dangerous- my sister kept saying she didn't know how they were allowed to be open at all, fire marshalls must look the other way.
You really have to see it to believe it, the bolts are stacked two and three deep, no way you can possibly see all of them. I bet some have been buried in there for years!

I love your pictures. Mine were okay but you can really see what it is like in yours. You definitely have to be careful. I thought the same thing about how they are allowed to stay open. I missed the wide backing. How could that have happened?
