This was not bid for. The person who wanted it saw it before it was even done and said she wanted to purchase it. One thing is she familiar with quilting, she is well known in the community and has money so we thought we would do better than putting in a silent auction. Believe me I never would have not given a starting price is I had known. She also knows me and had an idea how much I had put into it. I guess that is why she has money.
What a ***** - although I really hate to insult the canine species with that comparison. Had to look twice before I realized that it represents a pink ribbon - It's a lovely piece. |

it beautiful. Honestly I don't ever expect to get my money out of a quilt. .... but then I have not sold very many at all. I always figure I would be making a quilt anyway - if someone wanted it or not. I have a sickness :o So I am happy with any kind of money.... I may change my mind later though

I have had the same experience and will not donate a quilt to be auctioned off any more. I believe that a raffle brings in more money, mine also was for a "good cause". It was a full sized rag quilt and I even made pillowcases to go with it, it brought $20.00!! Didn't even pay for my time, little only the fabric and batting. Your quilt is gorgeous by the way, and should have brought a lot more.
I totally misunderstood what you had said, I thought it actually went up for auction, not someone who saw it before hand, but I think I would personally tell that person that she knew the proceeds from the quilt went to a good cause and that she should be ashamed of herself for paying such a piddly amount of money for such a gorgeous quilt. If you decide to donate another one at another time, if the same person tries the same thing, tell her what it's REALLY worth. |
