If you aren't going to make a scrappy quilt then there is no reason to keep all the scraps. I save salvage strips to use as ties for fat quarter bundles I put together for guild gifts.

It's because of those... "too many ideas".... that we can't get off this board and get some sewing done. I am always looking here for new ideas or easier ways to do something.
Love those scrap quilts and bags.

My salvages are useless. Not enough there to use.

I also enjoyed your post. As far as the wording portion from feed sacks, my mom said they were used by a woman for womanly needs. Need I say more?

I use the selvedges to tie up my tomato plants. Guess you could call it a calico garden.

If you have a garden, the selvage pieces work great to tie
up tomatoes, peas or any other climbing vegetable or flower.

[quote=Sew 'N Sew]I "collect" selvages too and also my quilting friend saves her for me. I cut the selvage off before I cut into the fabric. These are my first "selvage projects"[/quote

Love these projects. I use to leave the selvages on or cut them the width if they were white and then I would use the white width cut offs as leaders and enders. I have started cutting all my selvages off, to make selvage projects, since I saw a thread 2-3 months ago. Now, I have scraps of my scraps. It just goes with what my family has said about me for years: I never throw anything away!!!

I didn't know that they were suppose to be a certain width so just started cutting them off leaving a bit of the fabric. I ended up sending to a quilter who wanted them down in Florida. Yesterday in the mail I got the neatest floppy book mark made from my selvages and from my latest quilt to boot. How fun was that! It is so cute! Thanks Chele.

I never cared about scraps either until reading some threads on here and never had any intention of making a scrap quilt or a crumb or string or anything like that...since reading these posts, I too have become obsessed with my scraps of various sizes and for various projects :)

Your post was so funny! We're all nuts, aren't we? I wish I can get off this laptop and go finish that Minkie project I'm wrestling with!
