I live in Florida and quilting with gloves makes my hands very hot. A member of my local quilt guild who does lovely machine quilting suggested I buy a bottle of glycerin (sold at drugstores or Walmart) and put 1 or 2 drops on my fingers and work it in like hand locion. I have no trouble with my fingers sliding on the fabric now when I machine quilt. It leaves no residue on the quilt. Just a suggestion but it works for me.

I love my machingers, which I bought on ebay for less than $8. I have used the garden gloves and found they slipped around on my hands and wore out quickly.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Machingers!!!!!!!

I was amazed at the difference of using the machingers over not. I was given a pair for Christmas last year and think they are wonderful! I used to use a pair of gardening gloves with the rubber tips, but even the machingers out do them. The control is amazing.

Ok you convinced me . I just went to ebay and bought a pair. 7.94 with free shipping. From what I saw on line thats not too bad. Of course I now have $4 in my checking account LOL

I got some F and P gloves-- they were cheap enough to be worth a try. I like using them for FMQ, but one thing drives me crazy: I snip my thread tails as I go, and with gloves on I can't drop the threads into the bin-- they stick to the fingers! I have always snipped as I go and can't stand not to, so I have had to abandon the glove usage, or just wear the left one only.

machingers are on sale for $4.99 right now.........this weeks sale at jhittle's.

I like the machinger gloves for FMQ, they help move the quilt better than just my fingertips. I've also used Neutrogena hand cream, which is water base and doesn't harm the quilt and your hands feel wonderful too. I also use the super slider, I think it helps with smaller projects more than larger quilts. Speaking of small projects to quilt, I have 3 or 4 I need to get done!

Make sure you're not reaching up to your machine surface. This produces drag. The elbows have to be parallel for the quilt sandwich to glide. Happy quilting!
