Have found some crystal beads I can use to add some sparkle. It is a wall hanging so beads will be O.K.

A special needle for metalics is needed otherwise it will break the thread. Sometimes I lengthen the stitch which seems to help it from breaking.

Try Yenmet, it doesn't break because it is poly coated. It is rather expensice ($10 a spool) but I love it! Loosen your tension a bit with metallics and use a needle for metallics and slow down your speed.

make sure you use a metallic needle, loosen your tension a little (just like using invisible thread) and slow down. use a bobbin thread in the bobbin. the needle is the most important the metallic needles eye is shaped to keep from fraying the metallic threads. and if you sew too fast the thread stretches and breaks like invisible thread will.
good luck...i think metallics are a major pain in the **** but when you are successful with them they sure make some beautiful stitching! |
I loved using the metallic thread for FMQ on 'special gifts.'
Definitely use the metallic needle. I also used the thread extension loop for my machine, but you can use one of those standing ones, to keep the thread feeding nicely and not curl. Have fun. ali |
