Ewe! So gross. I can tell you there would be some dog drama going on at my house. Is your sewing room a room with a door? I would put a baby gate up and keep the dog out if taking the dog to the humane society is - JOKING about taking the dog to the pound :-). But the gate would keep him out of your area.
I'm laughing cause I have anew puppy and she - all of about 5-6 pounds - is so energetic (??) - I worry about the cords and just about everything - there is nothing that she wil not try to get into or under or in-between - But I don't dare let her out of my sight until she can control her 'duties' a bit better - she is all of 8 weeks old !
Here's my scoop on that. I have never had an animal pee on any of my fabrics. ...but if you have a dog who does hike and you can't break his habit, diaper him...my girlfried had this cute little band with velcro she made for her Doxie and she would put a quarter of a pad in it and slip it on him ..he could hike to his heart's content lol.....the worst my Teddy does is gather my fabric scaps when I am sorting and lays on them or gets in a basket of them if I left the basket down.
He is the only one in my sewing area. The other two stay in the other half and dare not come into Teddy's domain lol.... I do like cats but don't like how they live. They live on and in everything in the house and I couldn't bear that. |
The pee couldn't be that old could it? I would definately cut it up and soak in detergent overnight...wash and soak again and put some venigar in the rinse and hang in the sun...it should come out...I don't know about cat pee tho....
I love all animal but friends are not allowed to bring animals to my house or smoke or drink. I have enough of them...all three of them and they are trained lol..... |
I will trade you a bolt of fabric if you send me that precious little baby! But I can relate to your pain and frustration. We have a pug that will pee in the house in a heartbeat. We have tried everything to correct this bad habit but she will sneak off and go someplace that we don't see until a yellow spot turns up on the carpets. I bought a small carpet cleaning machine and put up a permanent gate across the hallway to the bedrooms so we have limited her access to the places she loves to "go". Can you stop her from going into your sewing room? To clean the fabric try cold water wash and a cup of baking soda.

how awful but you can tell by those eyes he is really sorry
looks like the poor Dear was framed :-( I have found that critter smell doesn't always go away after washing but Theres this stuff called 'Scent Away' at BassPro (hunters use it) It even gets rid of male cat spray -as a matter of fact its kept the male cats away from my steps and doors
I feel bad about the smell but he is so cute.

he Looks innocent to me !!!
Think I would have washed in with vinegar in the washer. alot easy then cutting and wasting so much of the fabric. |
Jackson is so adorable I would forgive him anything.
I guess that's how he thought to get his self a quilt he's just so cute you must not be to upset is he laying in a basket of stash!!!
That's awful... but he's such a cute little dog. Yeah, I'd wash all the fabric before cutting it b/c of shrinkage.

Oh, I feel so bad for you. But, that cute little face is saying "I didn't do it". Hopefully that is the only thing he has peed on.
A good example of why animals should never be allowed near your sewing area. Sorry to all the pet owners, I mean no offense.
But he is so cute...... I know how it smells (well not ironed) My little 14 yr old pom has suddenly decided it is easier to pee on the floor, any floor with carpet, than bother to go outside. I even got her a litter box, which she does use, but continues to pee on the rugs. Can't tell you how many times I have shampooed them. Oh well, when I get old, I supose I will pee on the floor too.
Heart breaking. Been there. Yuk! Oh, and wash your yardage before cutting it. Your strips will shrink and that will be another heartbreak. All the best.
Get the fabric washed so it doesn't smell -
Then keep your mouth shut about the fact that the dog anointed it. Then get the rest of your fabric(s) out of the way. You might want to check the others fabrics, too. If one got anointed, others may have, too. |
It is with great enjoyment that I have read these comments.
First-- the fabric is safe. I have washed it and it lives on. Jackson is also safe. Fortunately, he doesn't do this too often. He does have and evil twin/brother (from the same litter, but 3 x as big) and it may have happened when he was visiting (he belongs to my other daughter), as Jackson may have gotten territorial. He OWNS the house. My own dogs are female, don't lift their legs! All my dogs are rescues, and I sometimes foster. I hate to clean pee/poo, but it goes with the territory sometimes. When I leave the sewing room, I usually do close the door so they don't get in. I love my carpet cleaner! Jackson has made a new nest in my leftover batting. |
He's so cute.. but I'd still be steaming..

Wash with some borax added to your detergent, put 1/2 cup of white vinegar in where you normally add bleach
Spoken from experience.... |
I had the same thing happen to a quilt I was making for my sons girlfriend. Everything was already in strips. I went ahead and sewed the blocks together, then washed.
It seems like I can relate to to all these stories! |
Resolve has a Pet Oxi Advanced with Odor Stop that is made for carpet stains when pet urinate on them. I use it all the time for my dog who just hasn't gotten the idea that my green carpet is not grass!
The back of the product states that is it is safe to use on wool nylon or other synthetic carpets. I have sprayed it on some material that she got into and it and then I washed it. It worked! Worth a try. |

I started noticing an odor, could not figure out where it was coming from. Turns out, the little runt (weighs 6 lbs) had lifted his leg on the end of the bolt-- the fabric is mottled, so it was not noticed even with some scrutiny. I really did not want to wash the whole bolt, so now I'm cutting, and hand washing those strips that were affected as I go.
I can tell you now, that there is nothing quite like the smell of warm ironed dog pee......and he's my daughter's dog! |
Very darling looking Jackson. Getting him neutered should stop peeing on things. He is maor than likely doing it other places too. I would not have a dog or cat over the age of 6 months without it it being spayed or neutered. Sorry just my opinion.
He is neutered....
One day, WAAAAAAAY down the future you may laugh about this.
yes there is catpee on my scrapbasket
Sorry this happened. Your daughter's dog looks so innocent though!
I am so sorry about your adorable doggie "signing" your fabric. I have cats who take turns reminding me who is in charge..haha. We just have to remember we adopted them and we owe them the same uncoditional love they give us.
I can relate. My dog and my cat like to pee on my carpet and whatever else they can find. I can't seem to break them of the habit, but am working on it. Good luck in washing the damaged fabric. The pee will come out in the wash as I wash pee towels all the time.
But how could you get angry with some thing so prescious? I am sorry about your material though.
Oh, but he's such a cutie~
Been there done that with both my dog and cat. Now all my fabric is up off the floor. They have not peed in the house in a long time but not taking any chances.
I gotta say, that pooch is just so adorable I may be able to forgive him anything. That being said, i would cut off more than I need and then wash that so if it shrinks, you'll still get the size pieces you need.
I am so glad we have no animals in the house except the 2 legged kind. I have a 4 year old GGD that is autistic and will take her diaper off and pee in the floor. Of course she is not allowed in the sewing room for her own safety.

I use the same cleaner from Lowes. Best cleaner ever. Sorry about your fabric, but I would wash the whole bolt first, then cut.
