What about birds?
I've heard that Teflon gives off fumes toxic for birds when it overheats. Probably not so good for us either. After all, they once used canaries to alert miners of toxic fumes. They're more sensitive to gasses so if the bird fell off the perch the miners would evacuate.

Thanks, everbody, for taking the time to answer. It is a Rowenta

1400w. It was originally $89.00 and I got it for $40, no box - no

instructions. Sometimes I'm not so bright........... shoulda known

something wasn't right. My next iron will be from Wal-mart for $10.00!!!
