Sharon B, That does make sense. I have not made a rag quilt before and the directions said to backstitch at the ends of the lines. Talking about the lines in the X in the little squares that hold the batting and both sides together. Thanks, Debbie

to tack ends i would shorten the stitches down to almost 0 and sew a few stitches or sew a few regular stitches. lift the foot and move the fabric to the beginning and sew over the previous stitching.

Debbie I have made several rag quilts and don't worry about the back stitching - as when you attach the blocks together you cross over the X seams

Ok Sharon that's what I'll do. Another question...how do you do a border on a rag quilt? Debbie

I just set the stitch length to zero and sew three stitches. Nothing has ever come undone.

I used my walking foot so much that I wore out the spring mechanism that makes do the "walk"
My dealer said the spring is gets worn out----no "spring" left in the spring. So I purchased a new one and everything works just fine now. Chris |
I have never put a finished border on a rag quilt - just leave the outside edges open and rag them up - maybe someone else can help with that

I have a Baby Lock and have been told Baby Lock is Brother. My walking foot jumps up and down going forward. I hae to loosen it up and tighten it back up often.
|
I don't think you are supposed to backstitch with a walking foot.
