my machine did that when I put in the wrong brand of needles

I own a Viking and have managed two dealerships.

The 'obvious' one is like everyone said, is the needle with the flat side to the back and inserted all the way up.

You did not state if you had a mechanical or computerized one. If it is mechanical, check to make sure your stitch width is on ZERO. On some of the mechanicals you can slide the width back and forth, on otheres there are three needle positions. If that is the case make sure you are in center needle position.

As to the other machine having bobbin issues. Is the thread in the tension guide of the bobbin? If not you will get a mess. By the same token if you do not thread your upper thread with the foot raised the thread will not go in between the tension disc up top and that can cause a mess.

I know that you are going to think I didn't read your problem, however, every single time my HV Sapphire has had a problem its because I had the thread come off the hook. Try rethreading your machine and I swear I'm not nuts, but I have taken my machine in when I first got it. They messed with it at the shop and couldn't find anything wrong with it and then I was told by a wise gal, rethread it. I did and I've been sailing since,

I hope you have gotten your machine to sew by now. I don't have a Viking, I have a Bernina. I got the timing off while stippling and had to have the timing reset. My machine was doing the same as yours.

I had that problem a while back and found that the steel? shaft was actually bent! I have no idea how that could have happened. But I'd go for the easier fixes such as making sure the needle is in correctly, etc. before giving up my machine for repairs. It was a bit costly. Hope you get it figured out soon. I too have a Viking.

I have a "Husky" and Tussymussy is correct. The flat part of the needle is facing the back. Shutting it off-if it is computerized and turning it back on erases the settings from before, and the needle is where it belongs.. Good luck.

you may have put your needle in wrong and your another problem may you bobbin tense is too loose

Believe it or not, I have run into this problem only to find out that I was trying to do a zig-zag or other type stitch rather than a straight one using my 1/4" foot. Dahh, I have done this more times than I care to mention.

I have the Sapphire 830 and my needle was jerking to the right and hitting the plate. Took it in and 89 dollars later it was fixed for awhile. Now it is doing it again.
I change every thing but it still does it so went back to using my trusty 129 dollar Brother machine.
