I needed to make a oval for my quilted towlet seat and all I did was put a thin board under the top of the towlet seat and drew around it and added the seam allowance. For circles I swipe this large protracter from my hubby that he uses for sheet metal that marks it with soft lead. I also go thru my cuboards for the right size of circles when I am being lazy!
