I have some how built up a small stash,LOL. I always buy on sale, clearance, etc. Every now and then I'll pay full price for someting specific.

We have a bargain bin here, anything in it is half price and they will mark it another 50% off, so I get if for like a quarter of the price. I always buy almost everything in it, LOL.

Its came in handy, as I like to do scrappy quilts.

So, I just snatch up any good sale I find, if I like it, whether I have a use for it or not, LOL. And with that, I've somehow built a stash!

I'm new too. I just buy what I like. I haven't planned for any projects yet but I have sime ideas in my head. I love precuts and I'm a jelly roll, charm square and fat quarter junkie. I haven't got into bolts yet but I will tap that when I visit the states.

[quote=suezquilts]I tend to rate it 3 ways
1. like 1 yard
2. love 3 yards
3. can't live without! Purchase the bolt.

Me too, and I rarely buy anything less than 1 yd.

Same here.... I sometimes don't like what I've chosen when I get home and buy a different fabric. Working on a quilt now, same thing, made a quick trip to JoAnns last night..

Since you seem to me relatively small projects, buying fat quarters would give you a wider variety of fabrics. However, if you find a fabric that you really like, buy as much as you can, because it probably won't be there when you go back. Don't discount cotten dresses, blouses, and men's shirts in thrift shops. After cutting the seams off, you've probably got a half yard of fabric - don't forget to launder before using.

Personally, I prefer buying yardage but it's up to you.

i usually just buy for the project i am making and save leftover fabric to use in a scrappy way.

If I had to start over, I would buy a little extra fabric for a project that I had in mind and then build as I made other quilts.
My fabric choices have changed in the past 10 years and some of the newer fabrics don't work with ones that I purchased 10 years ago. Eiltcoq.

If you like it, buy a half yard. If you really like it, buy a yard. If it is something you would use as a border, buy 2 to 3 yards

If you like it and you can afford it buy it!!!Most of my stuff I've gathered from others, I have totes stuffed with scraps. If I find some that is a good deal(really good deal) then I'll buy all that I am able to afford. My problem is now finding places to stash my stash.lol
