I am a newbie here, My name is Kathy and I would like to know as far as pre-cut 4" inch fabric squares to make a quilt just sew on machine w/1/4" inch seam? also how many will I need? I know these are dummie questions but I am a NEW sewer too |

No question is a dumb question. So first off, welcome to the board. Yes, 1/4 inch seam is standard in quilting unless a pattern states otherwise. As far as size, it depends on how big you want your quilt to be, each 4" sq will become 3 1/2 after sewn because of the seam allowance. Have fun quilting!

A cut 4 inch square will finish to be a 3.5 inch square when you sew your 1/4 inch seams on all 4 sides. The number of squares needed will depend on how large you want your finished piece to be. 10 squares by 10 squares quilt (100 squares total) would make a 35" by 35" quilt. |
