The first blocks above are OBW, and they make their own backgrounds. The next pics are Stack n Whack and they are often show-cased on black. Does that help? It's just that when we did the Stack & Whack designs in the class the instructor made mention that the One Block Wonder is a kind of S&W that uses no filler in the spaces between the kaliedoscope blocks, so that was what I was thinking about. Maybe this is more like the current topic, with all the hexes jam up together. I hadn't thought about putting a separator color between the hexes, but can certainly see it could be done. Wow...very pretty, but so is the quilt with filler blocks. So far as I know, plan to make mine by the rows,no Y seams.Wondering if I should do 1st one with "iffy" fabric & save good stuff till I know what I'm doing.Ah well, it'll all work out. Thanks all for the info & pics.

They are all great, I think if you do what looks good to you it will be fine and be pretty, it appears you can't go wrong. Good luck. I have yet to tackle OBW, someday.....
